Introducing the HTL Finale: 2024-03-19 13:26:32

Hi everyone. I am Texx! …but you already knew that. I’d like to introduce you to a project of mine. It’s not a short read, but if you consider yourself a strong Warzoner, I would strongly suggest taking the time to peruse it.

In Harmony clan we run weekly tournaments. In these tournaments players are scored based on how deep they get. Their total points go onto a leaderboard, the “Harmony Tournaments Leaderboard” (HTL).

After a series of 13 tournaments, a “Finale” takes place with the top scoring players. We have had two Finales for our private tournaments and we are very close to beginning the third. I’ve created this thread to announce that there will be a Finale for the first 13 public Harmony tournaments.

The Finale is a series of 4 player round robins. In these round robins, each player chooses a template and they play each other once on each template. 4 templates. 4 round robins. 12 games per round. The top 2 players advance to the next round. The bottom 2 get eliminated.

Players are seeded going into the Finale based on the points they scored from the tournaments during the season. Higher seeds get to skip rounds and also get priority in the pick and ban phase, making seeding very important.

There is a prize pool. The prize pool for the Public Finale will be $500 (roughly €450), paid out to the top 6 players. The top 20 from the regular season will qualify for the Finale, though, as mentioned previously, the lowest seeds have a much longer road.

Here is a link to the tournament structure (it’s too wide to fit in the forum):
https://imgur.com/WGWmui6

Season 1 Tournaments:
#43 - MME Commander LD
#47 - Fogless Fighting
#50 - Combomb (cyclic)
#55 - Biomes of America
#60 - SE1W
#64 - Landria
#68 - Numenor
#71 - Battle for Middle-Earth
#76 - Lampuria Swap
#80 - SEAD
#83 - French Brawl
#88 - Strat MME
#92 - Volcano Island

The first 5 have finished. French Brawl just launched and the last 2 will be created within the next two months. It seems like 4-5 months is the life expectancy for a tourney, so expect the Finale to start around October.

Scoring structure:
1st = 50
2nd = 30
3rd = 20
4th = 15
5-6th = 10
7-8th = 7
9-12th = 5
13-16th = 3
17-24th = 2
24-32rd = 1

Below are the current standings as of a few days ago. If you don’t find your name in the Top 30 and are curious about your points total, drop me a DM and ask.

Looking at past private seasons, roughly 40 points will be the qualification cutoff. Players have been scored based on the position they’ve already secured in ongoing tournaments. The spreadsheet I use is not public and updates will happen sporadically. I’ll try to update monthly, but I can’t promise anything.

Rankings (progress: 55%):

Is this advertising the league for people who might be interested in taking part? Or just letting people know you run this league? Admittedly it does look pretty cool

I’ve read the post a couple of times and I’m still not sure

Buns, ignoring the Harmony only part....

If you get invited to a HTL Tournament, it is part of a wider initiative. This initiative includes 13 Tournaments. You need not play in many, or even any, but if you do play, you get points. What do points make ?

Once all 13 Tournaments are complete, the players with the most points enter a play-off, and the winners get ca$h.

Does that help ??

Hey Buns! So this is similar to the AWP World Tour Finals. You qualify for the HTL Finale by performing well in public Harmony tournaments. Anyone can join the tournaments. They’re public, after all. Also, everyone who has joined one of the tourneys in the past is on my invite list. This thread is simply to announce the HTL Finale to the world.

Wait wait wait, you mean there’s real money involved for the top 6??? Why don’t we do this for AWP Tour Finals, too??? I’d be rich by now :)

So pretty much a newcomer only has #88 and #92 to join. Pretty much you've missed 10/13.

Essentially, this is a advertisement of this event. But the question for many coming to this thread for the first time is why wasn't this advertised before? Was it deliberate?

I think it's obvious nobody was aware these were actual tournaments counting points for a event that people were unknowingly participating in?

What a tease. I love it.

The prize pool is funded by yours truly and the currency is USD.

Wowsers, that's a big commitment! Would've been awesome to see this advertised from the start, would have been the biggest tourney series in WL history.
That said, I do like how it means that the prize will (hopefully) go to a good player who joined the tournaments for the fun, not the money.

You don’t have to be a Harmony member to qualify for the public Finale. The public tournaments are open to everyone.

Although you are correct that it’s a sneak peak. Public tournaments make up only a quarter of the HTL tourney. The private tourneys have their own seasons with a prize pool, too. The first tourney of Season 5 launches in 2 weeks, and the 8th tourney of “Season 2 (teams)” in a few days. If this is something that interests you, our door is open.

There has been minimal change to the leaderboard in the last month. The amount of points scored has progressed from 55% to 60%. There are also 19 new additions to the leaderboard, though 96 players gained at least 1 point, with the biggest points gainer being the bloke in 1st, John, who only picked up 5 more points.

Speaking of John, I’d like to give a massive shoutout to him. I’ve been scoring the tournaments manually for almost a year and a half now. I’d look through the bracket and manually enter each and every name into the spreadsheet. In fact, the first version of the leaderboard was on a word doc, where I’d tally the points manually as well. I’ve spent countless hours on the HTL. It’s something I’m very proud of, but it is very taxing.

John has created script to automate the data entry. Not only has he saved me hours upon hours of future effort, but with this code, I am no longer hamstrung by the effort and time that scoring takes and can now do an overhaul of the points structure, allowing more than 32 players to be scored for each tournament.

The weight that this has lifted off my shoulders is immense and I can’t express how grateful I am to have a friend like him without being unbearably cringe. Shoutout to John.

In other news, the 12th public tournament is here. This is the penultimate tournament for Public Season 1. It is on the template used for the 1v1 Ladder; Strat MME.
