I'm interested in starting a long term Civ 5 game with all WL players, requirements are to be on at least once a week, have at least Brave New World. and be ready for fun, if you want in post your steam name and I'll try and get one set up!
Civ 4 is okay and a testament/precedent for the entire series, but it's useless DLC kind of kills it. Civ 5's Expansions put it on a whole other level compared to the other Civ games, despite the One Unit Per-Tile Economy and there still being no variation to Space Race victory ( In Civ II, you got to decide on how you wanted to build your spaceship exactly, and depending on how you built it and how much stuff you gave it, it would successfully launch ).
I have to agree with Death, I prefer Civ 4 much more than Civ 5. But I had been playing 3 and 4 for a few years before 5 had come out, so I'm not going to pretend I'm not biased :)

I can't play but perhaps you should specify some rules. Is this more a diplo thing or can you declare an early war just to steal a worker?
Civ 5 didn't seem too dumbed down imo, if anything it seemed a little more advanced. Examples: Huge stacks aren't what wins war. Nations all feel very distinct. Granted, some civilization can be a little stronger, but they are all for the most part balanced, unlike in Civ 4 where players like Huayna Capac and the Financial civic players had extreme advantages. Edit : Better unit scaling.
Drawbacks: Admittedly, Social Policies system is a step down from the awesome Civics system ( same with the current religion system in Civ 5. Adopting Faiths really dictated diplomacy majorly ). That's another thing, Diplomacy is pretty useless. If you have enough gold or the inevitable tech lead, you can just buy off everybody or make the afraid of you. The AI doesn't understand one unit-per-tile. Makes AI even worse. I said earlier Civ 4's DLCs were useless. I forgot what I was talking about : the DLC is pretty awesome in some cases, specifically Warlords. Great Generals in Civ 4 are probably the greatest thing ever. The scenarios in Beyond the Sword and Warlords are particularly awesome. ( become a spacefaring empire, Alexander the Great or a nation of a broken-apart Russia ) While Civ 5 has... Genghis Khan invading Asia? Been there, done that. Edit : Ranged Units are what really tops off the cake. Warfare isn't fun when you can chop somebody into 3/4 their HP without losing a single limb.
All that said, I think we can all agree Civ: Beyond Earth was the real step down. For now, I'll be playing Total War: Rome II. It's fun to invade Gaul 100 years before Caesar did.
