I'm gonna explain this pretty simply.
When creating and organizing tournaments, people often want to reserve spots for their friends because many players take reserved slots without reading the chat. Unlike in open games, tournaments don't allow team slot invites. In open games, you can invite friends to either team, and they can accept or decline without anyone else taking their spot.
I obviously understand that with tournaments, there's a huge risk to reserving team slots because if a player doesn't accept their invitation, the tournament won't start. However, the host can always remove the player if they don't join soon enough and the burden of filling a tournament lies on the host anyway.
Tournaments only have a 1 day time limit anyway so players added to slots would have no choice but to join fast.
