When you sit down for a game of Warlight (in real-time) what do you do in between moves?

1) Just wait and review board?
2) Start a second game and play two at once?
3) Multitask other non game stuff (like work and email)
4) Watch TV or Youtube?
5) Other... explain.

Cook dinner mostly. I usually play diplos, so what i do is stir the pasta or chicken or whatever we are having, then go into the study, read chat, take my turn and go back to cooking.

2)
I often play more than 2 rt games, sometimes as much as 4-5 (always with 5 min boot). Though that lowers the level of my play :p you can also always spend time trying to guess your opponents position. of Course I'll also do other things that don't require focus, like email or post(I'm playing rt now :p) etc.

Also, if you don't feel like playing more rt games, you could always work on multiday games where it's your turn, much less stress :p

3) I'm typically doing homework, watching videos that my professors sent me, or chatting on skype. 2 monitors let me do this.

1)during ladder games against strong opponents and rt tournaments
2)most of the time i play 2 games at a time if 1 of them does not require much thinking and is slow
3)check forum,facebook,solve maths(yeah i'm a kid)
4)watch youtube when my friends are not online and there's no second game available to play in

Never do 1 unless im about to lose to a noob

I used to do #2 quite often when i was a younger player, i think i've been in 5 rt games with 5 minute boot at once but mostly 1-2 games now

but primarily i am either doing homework or watching youtube videos, mostly because my opponents play to slow and i take orders in 15 seconds usually and I have lots of extra time.. 2-3 minutes each turn

Interesting thread, wondering what you are thinking of there Mercer

1. Only when I am playing a 3v3 with alts against Gnuffone

I usually am doing either 2 or 3 or 4. It just depends on whether I have anything that needs doing, and what's on TV at that time.

I suspect the answers will be different for diplo games than competitive. Also that it depends on when you play and how busy you are.

If its a serious game then 1.) Otherwsie I will check and take my turns in my Multiday games while i wait. If I'm done with my multiday games then I read forums, Facebook, email, update spreadsheets, do homework, or start up 1-2 more real time games....

I like to listen to music and ocasionally lectures while I play.

I usually tidy things up or make myself food while playing. If an intense RT, then i open up civ4 in another window. It makes people's constant drabble and archetypes less annoying while playing Diplomacy when i bash in Shaka's skull with LVL 5 Redcoats (yes, yes. .. very historical)

on realtime i just sit there waiting and thinking about the game, sometimes i rethink the play and re-commit.

i know if i go do something "more productive" i could most likely forget all about the game and end up getting booted. also, don't like to keep others waiting on me.

i blacklist whoever plays as a staller, for wasting my time.

exception for pushover whom i just talk shit at on skype for playing way too slow.

Back in university it was doing homework (damn nearly two years past tense now). Then it became just reddit, youtube or whatever blackhole internet activity that could fill the void.

However, what I've been doing for the past month or so, and would recommend to everyone else who is trying to brush up or relearn a forgotten language is use the apps Anki and Duolingo and just switch between them throughout the game. The timing is generally spot on between the turns.

Anki is a flashcard app that is really useful if you have learned the fundamentals and have just forgotten so much vocabulary you want to hit yourself. Duolingo is more built for whichever level, but it is better designed for the lower levels maybe. If you are like me and have no native speakers available to practice with, this is the best solution.

The reason I've posted here is because I would highly recommend everyone try it. Over the past three years now I've been trying to not forget everything I learned while studying abroad, but honestly this has been the best method.

1) Reminding myself of what's happened so far in the game (e.g. calculating income and finding out opponent starting picks).
