Hi guys, I just finished a new map of Europe where every city with a population above 100k has one territory. Please reply if you'd like to test it out!

When I opened this, I thought that 100k+ is the number of territories

I can help by nitpicking!

I think you missed the city of Opole in Poland, between Silesia and Lower Silesia. It has population of 126k by the 2023 statistics.
On the other hand you included Legnica, which has only 93k.

Official state stats. Page 38 of this pdf for cities:

Nice map btw!

That would be WAY too much. The highest you can get is only 4k - I don't know how Warzone would be able to accommodate a map with 100k territories, it would probably be too big of a file anyway.

It's a nice idea. Innsbruck(Austria) is having an exclave. But as Bolzano doesn't connect to Salzburg I guess you already plan to fix this. Maybe it would be more appropriate for Maastricht to border Aachen aswell instead of only Cologne. ^Opole is even center of it's own voivodeship - should be included.

this map really puts things into perspective. doesnt seem like the population distribution has changed that much since the industrial revolution

I indeed made a mistake naming naming legnica instead of Opole, I will fix this.

I tried to stick to existing subdivisions, so Innsbruck is the same shape as tyrol, which has indeed an exclave.

Realistically Maastricht should indeed connect to Aachen, but the map happened to be distorted this way because of the amount of cities in western Germany and the Netherlands. The same problem arises in Moscow oblast and Silesia where not every city is placed perfectly.

Now that you posted the map I was able to take a look. From my name you'd probably guess where I looked first!

I'm not sure what sources you used but as of the latest censuses (some from 2021, others from later), Anderlecht and Schaerbeek in the Brussels Capital Region both have over 100k pop, as well as Leuven in Flemish Brabant.

That can be attested by several major population-tracking websites such as Worldometer, World Atlas, Statista, Citypopulation and Wikipedia.

If you'd like me to link them I can do it, but they are rather easy to search and visit :)

Leuven I missed! I am aware of Anderlecht and Schaerbeek having more than 100k population, but some sources count them as Brussels and others do not. Because you are from Belgium you probably know best so I will also include them in a new version. Currently I am quite busy, but you can expect a new version in the next month!

Hard to say really! I like to think of it as similar to the Upper Silesia metro area, or (on a much bigger extent) the Ruhr metro area. Alone, Katowice is small and barely scratch Poland's top ten cities on many accounts, but the whole metro area is more populous than and half as rich as Warsaw! The Brussels "metro area" is truly a powerhouse, and all the cities are quite interconnected, but regardless, they are all still separate cities.

Looking forward to the update! No rush, it's just an interesting map so I had to leave a comment :)

(Not quite a Belgian, call me a Belgian in disguise ;))
