I'm making my first map and I think I'm ready for testing, but I don't know how to start test games. It's probably really obvious but I can't figure it out.

When you go into a map family you will see a button that says "change selected version mode" and change it to testing. Then when you make a game you will have to change your map filter to "your testing maps".

Got it. Now I have another stupid question. How can I post a link to my map so other players can see it and decide if they want to join a test game?

look at your map in detail then copy the URL

you can't just copy the url. When your in edit mode there is a button for sharing

To share your map:
Read this message -> Multiplayer Tab -> Design Maps -> Manage this map -> Edit selected version -> Link for Sharing -> Copy the upper link, for instance it should look like this; https://www.warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=40772
