Because the system chooses a winner at random in these cases.

Warzone blocks ties (which is the "vote to end" feature) on quickmatch, ladder, clanwars, tournament, and coin games, since those games need to have a winner, otherwise the rating and/or reward system would break.

Warzone checks the game state after every order, which means that after Gemächt des Todes was booted, you were the only player left in the game, thus making you the automatic winner.

In a sense, what you did is, you said, "Neither of us can win. Do you want to flip a coin for it?"

ok. the flip a coin makes sense. just feel bad. he deserved that win

on a side note: this is far from a tied position. Gemächt has this one in the bag big time.
I d say he didnt deserve the victory if he thought a tie would be a good deal here...
Should be doable with combining some stacks

In general, a coin flip can solve such cases well, yet I do not see how that is appropriate in a game where one player is up 20 income

There is a secret Japanese move in Warzone called "merge two stack in one", which could have been used in the game.
