Is everyone on this post forgetting that each carrier group has multiple attack subs and numerous anti-submarine aircraft and surface ships as part of its compliment? The hunters are also the hunted.
Carriers have multiple escorts and they do not engage fleets.
Next time read the articles linked before you argue, the submarines in question all bypassed the carrier escorts undetected. Your post just prove my point of how overexaggerated the detection capabilities of modern submarines are.
Besides, carriers of course do engage fleets, thats one of their main mission profiles, the ability to destroy enemy fleets with their bombers hundreds of miles away.
