Hello!

Every week we vote on 5 maps, and the map with the most votes becomes the map of the week for the following week.

Go here to vote: https://www.warzone.com/MapOfTheWeek/View?Week=520

You can use this thread to discuss the current vote. Tell us why you voted the way you did!

Congrats to map of the week for making it 520 weeks -- 10 years!

I think after this week, we'll stop map of the week, at least in its current form. 10 years is a great run but there are some issues with the current implementation, so at some point it has to stop. This seems like a good milestone to send it out on. Maybe we'll bring it back in a new form at some point in the future.

Map of the Week est mort, vive Map of the Week!

520 weeks is indeed impressive. I hope we can soon welcome a new, fresh successor.

Wow, While I'll admit I never really used it much, Map of the Week has been here since I first joined the game, Oh so long ago, One of the few things that hasn't changed haha. A bit sad to see it go, It was always fun to click on the voting, And look across the maps most of which I'd never played before, And pick which one I thought looked coolest. Even found a few that way that seemed so neat I saved them to potentially make a game on at some point in the future haha.

As I am always someone who has problems with everything, lemme bring some magic to this thread as well.
Let's not, Fizzer. It might be a flawed mechanism-it is usually fairly predictable which map will win. But it still helps-it showcases maps. This game has thousands of maps, with an average player only ever using a few and many only ever used by the deep diggers like me. And it is a tradition many will miss. If there is a way to fix it, keep the current system until the problems are fixed, then you can install the new thing immediately to replace it in continuity.

The main problem with current MotW is that most of those thousands of maps have already been nominated years ago. And once a map gets nominated, it can never be nominated again.

Since less than five new maps get made every week, we're close to running out of maps.

I'd love to see a MotW successor where old maps can be re-nominated every once in a while - then, as you say, players can again discover a lot of good old maps through the Map of the Week.

Yeah this :)

Although if MotW should showcase maps, it needs a bit more reach.
On average there is about 80-90 players that vote per week, but I suppose hat can also be a side effect of running out of good maps to vote on....

does that mean the auto games on the map of the week are gone too? There really should be a way to showcase maps and templates integrated in the game.

While map of the week is gone, it might be a a nice idea to expand the new maps tile to include one more map.

Given how map of the week was becoming those new maps anyway. This might further help with promoting those new maps

Why not finishing this awesome run with "Map of the 520 weeks"?
So we could nominathe the best of 520 winning maps of the week again.

Not a terrible idea to go out with a bang! To build on Lionheart's idea above ... I'm proposing a single-elimination bracket, head-to-head vote-off tournament of all Map-of-the-Week (MOTW) winners to select Map-of-the-Decade (MOTD).

  • All seeding based on current overall rating ... (i.e. "I.S. Continuum II - A Collision of Worlds by Coen&BladerLLC" @ 4.50/5.00 would have the #1 overall seed and, just picking a random map, no special reason, **cough** **cough** **ahem** "Tippecanoe Too by Al Doog" would have the #46 overall seed);
  • A single elimination bracket would have head-to-head voting rounds of 512* (i.e. 256 1v1 matches), 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4 (semi-final), and 2 (final);
  • Based on the number of still available maps, (as some maps may have been taken-down, retired) a 512 standard single-elimination bracket, would be simply modified thusly: A) If all 520 MOTWs are still active, the lowest rated 16 maps would "play-in" to complete the field, with a "win" then matching up to the top 8 seeds, and B) much more likely, if less than 512 of the 520 MOTWs are active, the very top seeds (e.g. #1 v BYE, #2 v BYE, #3 v BYE etc.) would get a BYE, advancing through the initial round of 512 (e.g. #1 v 256v257winner, #2 v 255v258winner, #3 v 253v260winner, etc.);
  • Publicity would need to be high for participation;
  • 512 MOTW bracket might be ambitious, but it would be the most inclusive;
  • Achievements could be unlocked;

or, you know, like not do that ... and in lieu a "map' icon or badge on the MAPS page to indicate being voted MOTW?
