A multi-attack game has now been started. Once again, if you weren't invited but would like to be, please post here!

I'll be posting links as the games finish, for the curious.

i just took a look at uservoice after a long time without doing it, fizzer's answer to everything: " it’s not on our immediate roadmap."

That's not quite true, Pink.

The reason it seems that way is because the Uservoices which are integrated to Warlight disappear from the Uservoice site. (Only requests which are unfulfilled there remain visible.)

A large number of Uservoices have recently been added to the game (for example, the new History tab, and the option to view the game from any particular player's perspective).

I still believe that - except for the "Give me My Games and Open Games back!" issue - Deployment Limits are "next up" for consideration, so we will see what happens.

More votes always help, of course!

Ok, we have a good number of games going on now. Does anyone else want to be included on a future game?

Those of you who have been playing, how do you feel about this optional rule? Does it improve gameplay? Hinder it? How so?

Here's an interesting limited deployment game we just finished:

https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9000249

There were a couple of violations of the deployment limit, which we dealt with by having the player surrender, and only allowed to continue playing if he offered a concession to his opponent. (Usually giving up a certain bonus.) This worked well enough. For 99% of the game, however, the limit was observed accurately.

Some interesting features:

There were a few carefully-planned invasions, like my takeover of the Southern peninsula on turns 28-30 (my opponent's production was not that much lower than mine, but I was able to surround him and remove him pretty quickly) and Ezoroth's gambit in assembling a large army on the island at the North of the map and then trying to mow through my defenses. These are interesting moments which reward careful planning.

Also, take a look at how borders develop during the game:

Each player has enough deployment power to hold a border of a certain length. Open a larger front with him/her, and they cannot defend it all (unless they prepared in advance).

This creates an incentive to surround the opponent, as that can give you a deployment advantage.

On large fronts which can be fully reinforced by both sides, the battle is slow and very tactical - minor victories and defeats accumulate. You must choose between leaving weak spots in your line and assembling larger armies in order to break through your enemy's. Very satisfying!

Interesting. This will change the gameplay and strategies. I would always like to try out new things. You got my votes. :-)

Good idea. +2

Also, what about a feature to bank armies? Let's say your income is 10, but you only need 8 troops to accomplish what you want to do for your turn, so instead of deploying the remaining 2 troops, you carry-over 2 troops and deploy 12 troops the following turn.

An interesting idea, but it sounds a little too complex to me.

After all, you can always deploy those armies in an adjacent territory and move them over - basically same effect, but without complicated rules and/or code.

The only challenge I can see is that it must be possible to override this rule in the case where you have fewer territories than income. (Although this would be incredibly rare, and the game would work just as well if you weren't allowed to deploy extra armies, instead.)

I'm not sure whether it has been suggested before. I haven't read all posts in the thread. Sorry if it does.

We compare two numbers. The first is your set limit per territory. The second one is total number of armies / total number of territories owned. Whichever higher will be the limit that turn. The formula will be:

=max(limit per territory, total number of armies / territories)

The advantages are we can keep it consistent and don't need to touch the rule (i.e. all armies must be deployed).

If anyone is making one of these games I would love to try it and learn how it works, it sounds really interesting. I really hope it gets added, I love new options :)

Feel free to invite me or PM me about a game, just be aware that I'll need to learn how to use it :P

inquisitor,

That is an excellent formula for this purpose. Thanks!

Fleecemaster,

I may be starting a new game in a week or so. I'll be sure to invite you! Do you have any preferred settings?
