Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new to this game and I've been playing with some settings.

I turned luck down to 0 on a practice game to do a few tests. I then attacked several countries with 4 armies (4 against 2). I was expecting the same result in each one because I thought I'd taken the random element out, but some I won with 3 armies left and dome with 2 armies left.

Have I misunderstood "luck" or is it a bug?

Check out the Help tab at the top -- the second link describes how the Luck Percentage slider works. The part under "Remainders" answers your question:

"In the event that the calculations do not come out evenly, the remainders will be randomed. For example, if the formula determines that 12.8 armies should be killed, there is a 80% chance that the result will be rounded up to 13 and a 20% chance that the result will be rounded down to 12. For this reason, luck can never be totally removed from WarLight, but since it's only one army it's essentially insignificant.

Randoming remainders is important to WarLight since it prevents players from exploiting the system. If results were rounded instead, it would make micromanagement of your armies very beneficial which reduces the overall fun of the game. For example, in this fictional scenario it would be a waste to attack with 3 armies since it would have the same effect as attacking with 2 except it puts an additional army of yours at risk and takes that army away from other benefit. By randoming remainders, this makes every army beneficial and removes the need to micromanage."

Not a bug.

The 2 defending armies should theoretically kill 2*0.7=1.4 of your armies (assuming default settings). However, since you cant have half an army, the remainder is randomized.
