The title kinda says it all. I tried to walk away from this as school got actually difficult for the first time, and I was spending far too much time on this game. However as summer approaches, I recently found myself drawing what I realized were effectively Warlight maps and asking friends to play with me. Why is this game so fantastic? Scientific answers only pls. (pseudoscience appreciated)

The real question is: how isn't WarLight addictive?

I crave the mental domination. Getting inside someone's head, predicting their actions, and countering them perfectly. A loss to a worthy opponent is almost as good, because they gain my respect. When a well-laid plan ends the game the pleasure is almost unbearable.

I feel the same way. I also agree with Judeburger.

Already a well played turn or a working counter gives you a good feeling even if you lost the game. You think i learned something and will do it better the next time. So you play again.

I personally like the game because it is about predicting what the other wants to do, which makes it very tactical (Yeah, duhh...).

And there are lots of ways to play the game, make games/maps yourself, but also just talking on school (or anywhere else) about secret alliances in a game.

@Judeburger: Sometimes, the hardest fought games are the ones we are the saddest to see end.
