2 areas with different deployment mode. Possible?: 2015-05-15 17:38:46

I want to create a map with two areas. One where all is normal (troops can be placed the way one wishes to), the other where each turn the player can only place a limited number of troops (example: all players get 5 troops to add to this second area each turn). This second area will be independant from the first (there must be a connection if not the Designer wont accept, so Ill put a heavy negative bonus in between the two areas). In other words it would almost be like a game where there is one area with local deployement and one with normal deployement. The objectif is to create a mini game (based on luck) parallel to the main game where the price is a bonus for the main game.

Is this possible?

If my explanation is not clear I can explain my idea in more detail.

No, not possible. And the map would have nothing to do with it. The restriction is the game system (can't use two different deployment rules). It would be like having %16 WR on one portion and %0 SR on another.

The best thing you could do is do local deployments and alter the bonuses as best you can to create two different types of games.

Well Ill tell you the idea, perhaps u have any suggestions on how I could come close to it.

The map is of Siena, an old medieval city in Italy. Siena is divided into 17 districts, all of these will be featured on the main map. Every district has its colors, arms and animal, which will be a cool feature for the lay out. May also allow interesting diplomacy game play. In the middle of Siena is an open square were there every year is organized a well-known horse race, Palio di Siena, where the districts compete against each other (ex: featured in one of the latest Bond movies). Winning the race is the greatest honor a district can get.

So, as I told u there is one main map with the districts. Then a second area, an enlarged version of the square (similar to the maps were u can enter the cities and fight). Each player will start with one area in the latter, and lets say 3 on the main map (doesnt matter). The horse race will take place once per game, in the second area. Players will start in groups of 4 (depends on number of players), each group can only advance to the same field (which equals to advancing in the race). With random turn cycle, this will give a random winner in each group, who advances to the next round against the winners of the other groups. By elimination, there will only be one winner in the end who wins the race and gets lets say a 10 point bonus in the main game. The same amount of troops will be given to each advancing horse rider per turn to keep the race going (important: should be independant of income in main game). Intervention from the main game will be blocked by negative bonuses on entering the square.

One obstacle to do this, is how to eliminate the players who dont advance from the group (all but one player in the end). But this is only the minor one. The biggest is as i said the deployment in the race. I want it to be luck based (as it basically is in the real race: horses are picked by chance).

Hope I made things clear. Would be nice if I could get close to the original idea with the help of the community.

In the mean time, enjoy: https://youtu.be/bml_5hUmmcs?t=17m2s (if u want crashes watch the other years)

Seems to me you'd want to make a map that has these districts and the square also. Connect the districts to the square of course. But make the starting spots in the districts only (need to do custom scenario and assign starting spots). Then give a bonus amount for the district to fight in the square. If I am understanding this correct, this is a progression (not two games in different areas).

Perhaps I am not understanding the idea though. But basically this is like a single elimination tourney?

I think I get what u mean and your idea isnt bad. If I understand you correctly u are suggesting a direct connection between the square and for example the capital of each district. Very clever. But this doesnt prevent people from putting more troops in the square than intended, and they can continue fighting which will never end the horse race. Yes, the square is supposed to be by single elimination. The game in the districts though continues as a normal match. The horse race is just for the bonus and the fun.
