What do you want to gain from a clan? It's an important question to answer before you look for one.
Different clans have different aims for their members. CORP, for example, serves the following goals:
- provide RP/diplo players with a list of reliable people they can invite to games/tournaments - create and share templates and scenarios and play them with one another - help players develop strategically through private tournaments and the CORP Strategic League (internal 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 ladders) - provide an active discussion community and an environment where people can find other people to play with (in team games, in FFAs they set up, in diplo games, etc.)
All clans have different goals, identities, and preferences even if they look similar on the surface. For example, when I was in Wolves, they had internal tournaments as well but on different templates than what we use. They were also a more active map-making community, while CORP tends to focus more on templates than maps for now. Even between two RP/diplo clans, there's a pretty huge difference, so you've got to be specific in what you want from a clan.
Since Zeus commented below, size also matters. Small clans, like apex and {Olympus} tend to be tight-knit communities where everyone knows each other and people are expected to participate more. Larger clans, like Darklordz, tend to be much more loosely connected. Middle-sized clans, of course, fall somewhere in the middle, tending to form "in-groups" (people who are really active) and "out-groups" (people who aren't).
