Hello. I am just seeing what everyone thinks is the best huge world map. I have listed some of the points I feel are most relevant to the decision below (although don't feel inclined to read seeing as its quite long).

Issander :
Pros : Large territory count, people have got to know it well.
Cons : Old so not exciting anymore, too many territories for many, no interesting distributions or pre-made scenarios, territory borders are scruffy and no effort to make any decoration.
Proof of success : Top of second page in rating, used a lot traditionally, nominated for MoTW and won with no relevant competition (no other huge world map to compare with).
Muligan :
Pros : Looks good and has style, has its own distribution mode, territories drawn well, in unique range of territory count (although still enough to make it 'huge'), more inter-continental connections.
Cons : It has no pre-made scenarios. Despite being an obvious upgrade from issander's, there are few new gameplay features (so at the moment it may not seem good, but when it gains maturity and will be judged not as a new development in map making but just as a map to choose as any other, it will probably become better than issander's).
PoS : Currently 1st in rating (but new).
zxctycxz :
Pros : Diplo bonuses (offering simpler game set-up for WW2-diplo-fans), specific time period, territories drawn well.
Cons : More decoration than issander's but it isn't so successful, not as much style as Muligan's, the map looks like it is the wrong size and should be cropped significantly, for non-diplo people who want a standard game it doesn't offer much other than a bit of unsuccesful decoration and better territory detail when compared with issander's.
PoS : Was 1st in rating (was new obviously), nominated for MoTW and won with no relevant competition (no other huge world map to compare with).

This excludes zxctycxz's unpublished first map and unfinished most recent map.

Personally, I would choose Muligan's map as the best, although it is tough to decide.

I say Issander's - most territories, biggest. Naming gets very lazy, but that's only a small bit.

As a fan of large maps, I only really like my one and Issander's one. By the way, the main reason Issander's is so large is that he included loads of islands, even really small ones that, in my opinion, were not needed. Compare the Pacific in mine and his for example.

zxctycxz's World War 2 Map:

- Very effective timeline for important lead up to WW2

- Territory naming much better

- Diplomacy is much easier to make on this map, even for the Cold War and even modern 2015 borders.

- Much more balanced, with a 5v5 Game, this is much more fun to play on especially with random start points.

- Issander's map has a weird curve in China and USA, heavily distorting territories.

- Muligan's map seems disproportionate, and the territories are much more sharp. Many of his territories in the Pacific have 3-7 parts, and makes it hard to tell what territory is what.

- The territories are smooth and neat, and are all much closer in size than Issander's.

Issander's will always hold a special place for me, because it was the first multiplayer map I ever played on. I haven't actually played Mulligan's yet, but i've looked it over, and it looks excellent.
zxc's is a bit oversized, but it is a very good looking map.

I just don't like Mulligan's. I don't know why, but I just hate it.

Zxc's WWII is good, it seems very nice, but more scenario starts would be good. There's an even amount of territories, and Europe has enough land to be desirable, but small enough to get that blitzkrieg feeling. Maybe a few more pieces of land in Europe, maybe eliminating some of the earlier scenario starts...

Issander's is also good. It's early level allows new players to experience huge maps.
However...
The curving at the edge of the map is annoying, and province names are not very descriptive. Also, Oceania is way too packed for my taste. I could conquer a good deal of Eurasisa in the time it takes to hunt that guy who's island hopping across Oceania.

But the two should collaborate to make a huge world map. Something so mind-blowing nobody will ever ask for another world map again.

Also, someone make me a Cold War map. I would appreciate it

I may be able to do that by the end of the year. But what I aim to do when I make a map is do something unique, so I don't really want to reproduce the same thing again only with Russia a bit bigger and so on, would you be able to suggest something to make a fundamentally different?

An example of this is when I made the Thirty Years' War Map - I didn't want to just make A Tale of Four Cities again with different borders, so I included colonies. That was what distinguished the two.

well zx, its just the ancient world's view on what their planet looks like i guess, or some really weird map projection, as an option now if you have to do a world map and change more than just the borders.

sorry i didnt phrase that very well. I mean if you are going to make another large/huge world map which changes more than borders, you're going to have to exclude/include different stuff or distort the map, which may only be feasible in an ancient world map or weird map projection.
