Hello members of WarLight!

In After_Dark there was a Council recently created dubbed The Cartography Council, This Council with its 3 members (Iasonas, TeeMee) is led by the legendary Map Maker zxctycxz (https://www.warlight.net/Profile?p=6013651978) he currently holds the most maps voted for map of the week and made maps such as 1701: War of Spanish Succession, A Tale of Four Cities, Europe 1812 [1.7k], Second World War and The Thirty Years' War (I'll post the links below).

We are putting out a call to all map makers interested in learning more and perhaps teaching others!

The obvious reason for this post is to attract map makers to the clan of After_Dark, I and zxctycxz would both like to teach players of WarLight not only in the ways of the game but a special part of the game which is that of Map Making!

How will you teach map making?

Map making isn't a thing to be taught, otherwise it will result in too many similar style maps.

In my opinion players should develop their own skill through first attempts/tests, guides and small amounts of help and suggestions. This will result in such a large variety of styles, as we have now. The opposite = boring.

It depends on how they'll educate. If they did trial and error teaching, that would be fine. If they taught basic techniques, that would be a little borderline. Some tips and tricks on keeping file size low would be perfect. However, there would be things that would ruin map diversity as apollo said.

Personally, I wish I had more time for mapmaking. It is one of the things that I enjoy greatly, but never seem to have the time for. As for teaching, I can proudly say that almost everything I know about mapmaking, I learned under the tutelage of NinjaNic. However, my maps are quite distinct stylistically from his. (Also there's the thing about his maps being good and mine being downright silly, but we'll not talk about that :( )

It is about my clan and isn't in anyway involved with developing a map, I do believe people can be taught tips and tricks as how to get better at map making i am sure that people can develop their own styles in time. :)

So if you want to teach people tips and tricks, make a video and post it OR write something on the wiki.....

Ask your clan for help or ask in the Maps sub forum where the legit map makers will actually read it and then get down to business.

I think I'm kinda against map makers because I take a lot of maps for granted. TBH I play off maps made by only 8-9 differet people. :(
(I've played a lot just not regularly)

So if you have good smallish map suggestions let me know.

i dont think i count as a wise old mapmaker quite yet :P i just happen to have made a couple of maps in the past so they put me in, im not really that good at making them

While this is a great idea, it's also a giant propaganda scheme. Keep your clan stuff to the clan forum from now on. You could still advertise this, but don't make it look like its just to Attract people to AfterDark.

OnlyThePie, if it's likely that people are interested, and it's relevant to map making, then it's acceptable. Yes, it helps After_Dark, but that's just a side effect.
