I am playing a team 4x4x4x4x4 game that is supposed to have a 2/3 day boot time (vote/direct), according to both the settings and the language at the top of the nudge/boot window. However, the actual boot time when the buttons become active is 3 days 5 hours/5 days 18 hours.

As a consequence, we are currently almost 5 weeks into the game at turn 11. It is getting ridiculous and we are now over 4 days into the latest delay which is, as usual, without any note from the offending player. Why is there a variance between the stated boot times in the settings and the actuals? I mean, I expected this game to go a bit long, but not this long and this is part of the problem - it is making the game kind of tedious. What gives?

post the game link when possible please *under settings there is a link*
and likely causes is a banked boot time, which gives additional time based on how fast you've moved on past turns.

Ok, I see that now. This must be the first game that I've encountered the banked boot times. When I joined this game, I knew that it would be kind of slow w/ all the players and the 2/3 day boot time, but not that slow. This game could take 3-6 months - or longer - at this rate! It's too bad, because it could have been a decent game. Lesson learned, I guess.

Here is the game: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=1129621

and i'm thinking that the game's creator didn't follow this advice under the info on banking boot times (unless they really intended it to be epochally slow):

"Since banking boot times gives more leeway, it is recommended you use smaller boot times than you would without it."

it seems like there is a lot of discussion about how booting is a 'dick move' especially in the multi-day games. but isn't it also inconsiderate to keep so many people waiting for days (currently 18 players) to make a simple move without even a quick message that you'll be busy/on a trip/otherwise occupied?
