Is it possible to make a truly Public Tournament that is NOT a Coin game?

I miss that capability.

No it is not. The old tournament system was broken with countless open-and-never-to-be-filled tournaments. Thus, the new implementation requires an investment in order to create a tournament in order to ensure that any tournaments are well thought-out and worthwhile.

Yep, it is. Just select the option "Free without Prize"

Fizzer, I am assuming he is looking for an option to make a public tournament with no coin investment, not simply avoid having coins go to the winner.

Paying a small fee to create public tournaments seems reasonable to me, although it looks like it can get as high as ~900 coins even with no prize money, depending on the settings. This no longer seems reasonable, and the single open tournament probably reflects that most players are not willing to invest in creating tournaments. The ability to add prize money however is outstanding.

You can always create private tournaments and allow players who join to invite others. It may be harder to fill, but this is an option for those that may not be able to invest in some coins.

I am currently looking at creating a 2nd annual "Lord of the Fjord" round robin tournament. The first one was great fun, and I'm weighing weather or not to make the second tourney public or rely on inviting friends.

It's funny:dig a little back into the older forums, and you'll see countless players complaining about tournament invites.

Actually, if my understanding is correct, you can create a public tournament without coins for free when there are no open tournaments. There are some restrictions, though, like I think it has to be single elimination with at most 32 players.

While it is true you can create a public tournament for free when there are no other open tournaments, I believe that new free tournament has to be a coin tournament, requiring entry fees from all participants.

If you put some work into it, you can create "open" tournaments. When you host tournaments, you are able to invite anyone who's in a clan, without being on your friendlist. But that's as close as you get without coins, as far as I know.
