So I've got a question. When playing games with my friends from school, we will always conspire behind the scenes to make the best scenario for ourselves. I am no exception. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am more skillful with my words than my friends, which is why I usually end up beating them.
Is private messaging sociably acceptable to the community of Warlight as a whole, or is it considered borderline cheating and sort of douchey?
no,not at all if you are able to wrap people around your finger as to help elevate you to a higher postition and successfully pull it off that that commands as much skill as strategy Only those who fall for that can call it cheating or douchey because they realise that they were tricked by someone better than them and that is one thing people can't handle.
Even when games disable private messaging, you can still use Warlight's global messaging system to communicate with other players. So when other games disable private messaging, it is basically sending a message that conspiring behind the scenes is not encouraged.
But if PMing is enabled, then no, manipulating the outcome of the game using private messaging generally isn't considered cheating.
I mean, as long as you don't ruin the game for people who actually wanted to play a real game and not a 1v1v1v(you + your friends/alts). I personally would probably blacklist you if I caught you doing that in an FFA, just because I don't want to play with players of that sort because I'd rather play actual games than with people who try to make up for their lack of actual skill by being "skillfull with their words."
"Speak softly, and carry a big stick." ~ Theodore Roosevelt
I like going by this method. Being strong enough to use words successfully; that's how I would do it in the real world and that's how I'd do it in Warlight. So that's why I asked this question.
Yeah... Roosevelt was a diplomat and politician (and a military man), not a Warlight player. You might as well be extrapolating from Gandhi's ideal of satyagraha- equally relevant to Warlight, a game with specific objectives that tests your strategic ability, where "using words" outside a diplo game is just an euphemism for cheating.
