We have reached a point where comedians don't/can't perform at colleges because everyone is PC and says that they are offensive. I'm sorry, when were we taught to take jokes seriously?

We have reached a point where Gettysburg, you know, the place where the bloody turning point of the US CIVIL WAR TOOK PLACE, feels the need to remove items from the shelf displaying the "Confederate" flag for fear of scrutiny from people who apparently want our own history banned (meanwhile nobody bats an eye at the selling of the Nazi flag). TV land has taken off the Dukes of Hazard because their car, named the General Lee, has the "Confederate" flag painted on it.

We have reached a point where nobody cares if white people are the victims of fatal shootings. I remember people being more disturbed over the death of a police dog named Rocko than the double murder of twin sisters, one found naked. And now we have the case in some California city where an illegal immigrant, who was sent back 5 times, is a suspect in the murder of a white woman. This suspect says that the gun was under a bench and his foot kicked it, shooting her three times... Now, I don't even have to call bullshit on this, but if the roles of the suspect and victim were swapped, we'd have another charred city. What makes minorities so special, my dear government and media?

And then Donald Trump is getting bashed by everybody for saying all those things about illegal immigrants being murderers, drug dealers, and rapists. Why are people acting like he's wrong? I know all those already exist here, but there needs to be a solution to keep anymore from flooding in, and he gets dropped from television stations for pointing out the elephant in the room.

Its rather depressing. Whats funny is that alot of Americans are ignorant of how awesome their rights already are. Whats funny is how some Americans think they can freely bash the military without taking into account that it was an American army that fought for their freedom of speech. Whats funny is how some feminist can bash men but cry foul if they get bashed. Know what? Its not funny. Its pretty stupid.

I think that if Americans had to endure hardships that other nations have to put up with, they'd be less concerned about petty social issues and more concerned with political ones. Its saddening that Americans were so thrilled about the legalization of homosexuality but completely ignored the joint attacks that took place on the other side of the globe.

It all revolves around simple human ideals. Trust the people you know, look up to them, mold yourself to their image and be friendly to them. Meanwhile, distrust the people you don't know until that distrust becomes hatred and worse. It happens to everybody, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. A big issue with PC-supporters is that it's usually just a vent for them. They probably had some childhood trauma vaguely similar to what they are protesting against and they hate it now. It's just as in Roman times ; Popular Ennui.

I thought judging by OP this thread is going to be about Political Correctness, but talk is already taking steps to everyday issues.

Some say political correction according to dictionaries is adjective to "socially acceptable", ideologiest see it more of institutional oppresion of what is regarded socially correct or acceptable.

I think best way understanding the phase "Political correctness" (or "Politically incorrect") is through George Orwell and Noam Chomsky. Through Orwell by his novel 1984 and conception of speaking, bureaucratic language norms and adding Chomsky´s conception of language as tool to shape ones mind, images and thoughts. So "political correctness" is subliminally a way to opress or induce certain way of thinking, approaching to things. Creating institutional norms, what is acceptable - and mainly by words.

Generally PC is linked with social issues, racial, LGTB, minorities, womens, feelings-sensitive topics etc. And therefore the interpretation of the phrase: "What is right to say out loud, and whats not!"
For example some feel that it is politically incorrect to say, that "I like being white", while sentence "I like being black" is not wrong at all.

Gettysburg and the confederate are symbols. Therefore they are rather labeled under Political Geography and the manipulative aspects of images through them. It is same with monuments, other victory-defeat territories etc. No winning side wants to remember the losing - and I do not see what is wrong with it? Actually this would be Thautholgy and exactly "Political Correctness" if one must honour the losing side to protect someones feelings.

Thus far I have read that PC is originated as Right Wing term of abuse or Left criticism of liberal and non-party thinkers. Here comes the layers of Left PC and right PC, which in some part contradict each other.

For me Political correctness figurates mostly in media and that is the worst of it, as it is deliberately manipulative. Using euphemism instead of real terms. For example when speaking in history we have genocide, which is in principle a mass murder. Or nowadays Humanitarian intervention, again in principle act of war. I see that as political correctness, because we can´t say what things are we need to use softer terms. Like poverty (not people who are in desprate hunger or dying due to it).

Or for example the majorities favourite idea of LGTB in this forum. How are we supposed to call them and what is right or abusive? Gay, homo, fag etc? Or should now every "normal" person emhasise the HETERO part in his sexual behaviour.

PC is an awful thing, but an effective tool for politicians to create normative standards or supress them!

The Confederate Flag is rascist yet blacks call each other "Niggas" all the time. We are destroying our history over this. Millions of Indians died under the American flag. Why not ban that?

This is probably the ultimate crime of political correctness: The censorship of political views. We're quickly reaching the stage in the U.S where anyone who says something contrary to mainstream thought is shunned from all public view. Whenever people are only allowed to think one way is when things get bad.

As I see it Political Correctness is a tool - to show how "humane" western world is, that we do not "bomb" or kill, but instead try to drag people in the court (except the head terrorists) under legal judgment, which in principle should be right!

It is tool, in that sense that it is not what we really do. It is just an image media paints. Western media speaks about bombings (whether suicide, terror, or army related by the middle-eastern Oli-cartels etc), but the ones we do go unnoticed.

Even past 10 years or so the USA has taken a leap forward by attacking countries it is not at war at all! Just search JSOC operations/missions. They bomb by droid and work on USA target-kill-hitlist missions and they do that in countries they should not be by foreign policy without the host countries premission. And the war bombings - ever seen a news where it says "local civilisans died due to NATO/USA bombing", hardly?

@Laws. No, dont worry am not racist, or ignorant. And I do not use these words. And I agree it is good to ban those. But at some point, (I could not come up with good example) the PC starts to lable anything offensive. Calling someone too left or too right already feels like a bad thing. Being nation-centric, patriotic is for someone abusive. And like the OP pointed out the immigration thing - which is hot topic in Europe and especially in my home country Estonia, where we are quite an homo-ethnic nation, although not racists nor that intolerant (although some part of the world due to countries X propaganda promotes that image of us). If one does not favour soft immigration policy he/she is not racist - but nowadays a great amount of people tend to see it that way.

One of the primary objectives was to burn the city to the ground and disrupt the flow of refugees and relief aid. Needless to say it worked on all levels and 50,000 people, mainly refugees, were killed. The city had little to no industrial or strategic significance, the British and Americans decided to send a message to Hitler.

If we are to bomb any locations, we are to first do a sweep of the area with reconnaissance groups. We calculate how valuable it is to the enemy. 40% or more and it's an instant bombing.
