Reputation that eventually lower's people's visibility is a horrible idea. Even in a forum with fewer trolls. People with differing opinions will immediately lower each other's rep, and if someone's rep gets too low they'll just create an alt and start over.
And what would be to stop trolls from mass-producing alts for the sole purpose of lowering a single person's rep?

Oh, and mods probably won't happen. It's just Fizzer and Mercer, and they do not have the free time to constantly moderate all this shit.

It's not just them. There are other mods, who choose to stay anonymous. Perhaps increasing their number is a good idea? Difficult to find trustworthy players though.

That is true Arun, it would seem most of the people on these forums have no sense of decency and will simply use mod powers to promote their own threads.

Taking an alt creates effort and would also get past any moderation system anyway. People will also be able to increase their rep by playing games (just assigning points to themselves) so active players will never have an issue. You could also just distribute rep in accordance with ladder points instead, too, so that only good/responsible players get that power.

Not really. when i was banned, I created an alt in less than 3 minutes.

Most people would just create hordes of alts to trash anybody they want. And some people would threaten to unleash their horde just to silence somebody they don't agree with on the forums.

Honestly, I would stop going on the forums for the sake of my reputation because chances are you will get demoted more times than promoted. I and many other people would just abandon the forums for fear of saying something that might incite a rep point backlash.

Also, what would stop people from spamming the "bad rep" button on somebody's profile?

The problem is "bad" and "good" reputation is not able to be measured. At least, not nearly as accurately as anybody wants. Reputation is subjective, and therefore, someone, or worse, multiple people, view something as "bad" when someone, or multiple people, view the same thing as "good". An example being: Some people are not happy about seeing politics, and history on the off-topic forum. Some people are. This could possibly lead to a mass exchange of reputation points, where people on different sides on the argument use their points to lower the reputation of the people who don't agree with them.

Yes, I understand that the people who do this are immature and people who do that do not deserve to be here, and the likes, but with great power comes great responsibility (I'm sorry for being cliché). The great power being, groups of people able to tarnish others' reputation for disagreeing with them, and the responsibility being to use these points responsibly. What I am trying to say is, it could happen. And what better way to stop it happening, than allowing no chance for it to happen?

The best solution to the problem of trolls, is to leave them alone, and not give them what they want - attention. The responsible players must be able to locate and ignore the trolls who dwell on the fora, so they do not receive the luxury of players' attention. What happens after this, is people take the time to report them, that will probably not get noticed for a few days, so the troll gets happier, and creates more meaningless and stupid threads, and it perpetuates, until the troll gets suspended. Eventually the troll will make alts, will come back, or a new one will pop up. So if we just leave them to do their own little thing, letting their threads sink into obscurity, we will have a more pleasant forum.

tl;dr Don't feed the trolls.

1) Fora is correct as far as the laws of English are. The plural of words (derived from Latin) ending in -um are supposed to be replaced with -a. (A good example of this, is datum, and data, that are still commonly used today). Much like words (derived from Latin) that end in -us are supposed to be replaced with -i. It is just the modernised, anglicanised "forums" that everybody uses more commonly, as it sticks to the more germanic "theme", if you will, of English.

2) You decide to disregard everything else I had to say, just to make that one sentence.

I've been playing warlight 4 years in December...10th Dec 2015 is my anniversary date....
I don't know if thats old or young in regards to other peoples definition of "new players".My activity in the forum over the past 3 years or so has somewhat been *subdued* and to an extent..RARE! (I also have not believed in creating alts too as I deem it as cheating by making yourself look good but eventually get found out and look ever worse).

Ox, i don't want to argue about this reputation because it sounds like a million other similar and just as awful suggestions. One need only read a few threads to figure out who the bad eggs are.

For example: If Barach Obama walks into a mosque in NYC, everyone will like him, and think he has a good reputation.

If Barach Obama walks into a room filled with white supremacists... well, you good the idea.

@Genghis Agreed, that is what I was trying to say. It'd be pointless to implement a system that could easily be broken, when it doesn't take long to find the "bad eggs" as you put them.

@Tyrion Perfect example for what Genghis was saying, thanks for posting!

I doubt the tools to moderate effectively exist. A lot of message boards at the very least have a mechanism for reporting offensive content. That alone drastically reduces moderation workload.

The boards could use a lot of work in general, but the priority has always been the game. I can recall only minor changes made to the board in the past five years.

Ultimately this "reputation" system would just another victim of Murhpy's law.

You want to fix the level of hostility in threads? Simply shun those who are overly hostile. Case closed.
