How about this:
Every civilization has its own Apocalypse. The Apocalypse was never meant to end the world. In every civilization's end, there is a certain power or more that pulls the strings.
It may be more fantasy than sci-fi, I don't know what the boundaries are. Sorry if I'm wasting your time here.

I, Hostile, and Glados approve.
It is a horror novella however. I don't like horror. I was traumatized during a scene in the Matrix [1] where Neo had no mouth.

Imagine this; You wake up for your normal day routine. You brush your teeth, get dressed, eat your breakfast, and kiss your wife/husband on your way out the door. You get to work that way you can support your family and make a living. You deal with your boss's shit and fix other peoples problems that have been dumped on you. You get home check the mail, surprise, there are more bills. 'How am I going to pay them this time?' you say. You find out your kid is in jail for doing drugs and resisting arrest. Your father just died from cancer and your mom is in the mental ward. You go to the bar to drown your sorrows in booze and liquor.
Now, to you, this is your real life. But unbecnounce to you, you and your life is but only a fun filled show of sceptical. The hurt you experience, the pain you endure, the love you bask in; all a lie. You are but a product of entertainment. A real person who feels emotion created by other men for their entertainment.
The setting would be in the future where cloning and genetics are boundless. People are created and observed in zoo like settings. People come to watch you struggle.
Kinda long but its my contribution.

People were very warlike in the 15th Century. If they got their hands on modern technology then there could be war.

I've always had this idea for a plot ever since i tried writing.
(Title) The Gods of Terra
Set in the surveyor vessel TFSV Delhi, a crew of 30 encounters an alien world. The first act would center around exposition, character building and reaction to the discovery of this planet that has alien life.
The second act would revolve around coming down to this planet to discover that the inhabitants bear an uncanny resemblance to homo sapien, and that they appear to be in the middle of the bronze age. They would envelop themselves in the many cultures they find, and start spreading information to ease the learning curve before the iron age. Eventually, they come to understand the political world as well as the religious world.
The third act would center on growing tensions of the crew as they slowly lose their bearing with the knowledge that the gods they speak of here resemble tales of old Earth god lore. The crew eventually splits themselves into 2 factions, the Fakinays and the Worstii.
The forth act is the climax, with an intense battle in the skies and on the ground, with the usage of drones and robot ground forces. In the end, the surrounding environment and the 2 factions they were fighting for are left severely damaged. The remaining crew reconciles, only 10 left. As they leave the planet, they scan objects on their radar that would suggest vessels on a guided course. The crew decides to ignore this and head home.
The epilogue would be a reviewing of the after action report, just before the report becomes classified.
Feel free to pick a theme or 2 from that, but the central premise is that we discover a civilization that is in its development period.
