I loved the mechanic of no free units other than bonuses, the strategic importance of rings and corners, and the tactical benefit gained from baiting the AI into throwing away its units by emptying a ring on one turn only to reinforce it heavily the next. The only downside was that once the snowballing begins, its over quickly. Almost too easy of a win, but it was a fun one.
