WarLight turns five!

It was five years ago today that I first started working on WarLight.

WarLight has come a long ways in five years! Over 2.5 million multi-player games have been played and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Here you can see a graph of relative traffic to WarLight.net from the last few years:

In the early days, traffic was pretty flat. March of 2010 is when WarLight swapped from Silverlight to Flash and the traffic started steadily growing. The first spike you see in June 2010 is the big Poland spike, when lots of Polish people found the game (mostly through Polish site joemonster.org). The big increase in traffic in October 2011 was due to the release of the stand-alone client that was distributed to Flash gaming sites such as Kongregate and Armor Games. You can also see big dips in traffic every December as people are away for the holidays.

2013 is going to be an important year for WarLight. Stay tuned to the blog for announcements!

  1. Happy Birthday Warlight!

I love the graph, I was part of the spike when the stand-alone client was released and have been enjoying the game every moment since.

    Keep up the great work.

  2. Happy Birthday WarLight!!

And congrats to you, Randy. You`ve done very well. WarLight is an amazing game and I hope we will grow a lot more 😀

  3. congrats!

Moros: i recall Fizzer mentioned the name warlight came from mixing the words war with silverlight, which was the platform that it originally ran on before it got ported to flash.

  4. Maybe it is time to work on new single-player challenge to distribute to kongregate-alikes? I’d be happy to make some thematic single-player challenges that’d involve a certain amount of skill, not to mention there are a lot of people currently playing role-playing games or custom scenarios that could be used.

    1. That would be awesome if you wanted to make some levels. I’m working on a new tutorial that would fit in well, too. The hardest part of launching something like this is balancing each level so it’s a good difficulty progression over the previous. It can take a lot of time to balance everything perfectly.

  5. Happy Birthday Warlight!

In those 2 years i have been here it has been a great revalation in gaming.
Heres to many more years to come!

  6. I find that there should be a level in between 2 and 3 and at least 2-3 between 3 and the challenges, they’re way too hard, took me ages of playing regular warlight in multiplayer to figure them out
thanks for the great game, happy bday! 😀 (4 hours until my 18th birthday btw lol)

  7. Yay! Happy B-Day Warlight! i have been playing for two years now 🙂

Anyway, maybe an new challenge? the HardCore Challgne where you have an team of 4 and you must fight 20 A.Is in teams of 2! It would be the Ultimate Challenge for hardcore warlight players 🙂

    1. I don’t think any versus AI challenge could be considered hardcore, they play differently from humans and it’s usually just a matter of learning how they work. A lot of the top ranked players haven’t even done the single player challenges

  8. Didn’t know joemonster.org caused such big spike. Some of joemonster-ers are still around 😉
It’s impressive you still find time and willingness to work on such big project. Good luck!

  9. Warlight is a super fun game. I discovered it on a trip to see my brother and sister in Denver, Colorado. Everyone in their household was playing it! Now I enjoy improving my strategy and keeping in touch with other family and friends that play. Thank you Fizzer!
