!! !! Alternate Future Warning !! !! As the Russians steamrolled across southern Ukraine, its troops and ethnic population in Transnistria became increasingly threatened by the Moldovan and Ukrainian government. The last holdout of older, more glorious times, it became necessary to connect Transnistria to the motherland after 31 years. However, this noble aim could only happen with a simultaneous land and naval operation, to strike as quickly and widely as possible. From Part II It is unclear who actually started the war, but a war could have been predicted due to the assembly of troops from both Russia and Ukraine on their mutual border. After assembling, however, Russian military bases were attacked by missiles of some point. This event gave the Russian military the opportunity to rush in and destroy any resistance between Donetsk and the Dnieper, as the Ukrainian military had not been prepared. Russia made a series of demands to Ukraine, but the Ukrainians quickly rejected, as they believed that their sovereignty would disappear if accepted. Thus, the war continues. From Part I: Ukraine and Russia had been over odds over Crimea and the still-continuing conflict in the Donbass for years by this point, but that is soon to change. Both sides accuse each other of planning for war and, quickly, abandoning agreements they had signed in Minsk, and Russia had rapidly remilitarized the border to "defend against Ukrainian aggression". However, the worst is yet to come. |
