In this timeline, the southern states of the nascent USA received almost everything they wanted at the Constitutional Convention, including constitutional protection of slavery in all new states. The America of this world was, from the moment of its foundation, tainted by this fact. The rot of slavery, now protected by the federal government, would spread over the American continent like a disease, so that from sea to shining sea, an entire race of human beings were bound in chains. Except for in the north. The North, that one battered island of decency in a sea of bloodstained tyranny, has grown more radical as the federal government slowly erodes its freedom. Radical abolitionism has spread like wildfire, with many calling for even more revolutionary ideas such as universal suffrage. For the black population of America, it has become a refuge second only to Canada. Yet this refuge is vulnerable to the political domination of the slave states, who in recent years have passed bills ranging from the Fugitive Slave Act to the Voting Act of 1856, which permanently banned people of African descent from voting in all states. But now, they have taken one step too far. With the election of 1860 going to a candidate who advocated the mandatory enslavement of all people of African descent in all states, the North has finally had enough. Marching to the anthem of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, the men of all races of the newly proclaimed Free American Republic are on a crusade for a new world, in which no human being need fear the lash, and in which the Liberty and Justice truly belong to all. Joining them are hundreds of slave rebellions, who see this as their only chance for freedom. NOTE: Sparsely populated territories will not be included in this level, due to the limited fighting taking place. |
