Since someone else made a thread about who was the worst warlight player, I thought it would be a good idea to discuss who might be the best 1v1 strategic player.
To clarify the question, by strategic I mean that to consider a game's result, the template must have a maximum of 16% WR luck , picking must require some skills, and there must be more than one picking senario. By strategic I also mean that the player should be able to adapt to different playstyles and that the pool of players agaisnt who he or she plays does matter (Because ya, winning agaisnt Summer is worth far more than winning against me ;)).

So here are my suggestions (these are subjective and relative to the little experience i've got in Warlight) :

- Timinator: After looking at many of his games on the ladders, the deepness of his thought process, his unbelievable prediction skills and his high level of creativity are stunning. 1rst on 2v2, 1v1 and RT; 85% winrate in a pool of damn good players.

- Szeweningen: The God of picking. I remember watching a game of Professor dead piggy vs Summer in streaming with Szeweningen commenting, where he discussed the possible picks on the map for about 2 hours, from the use of the leftovers to the dynamic of the picks 5 turns deep. Also, Szeweningen's objetive analysis skills also apply more than well to his general gameplay, making him whithout any doubt one of warlight's most skilled players.

- Summer: constant 1rst on the 1v1 ladder, reached 1rst on all ladders (excluding seasonals), she has shown more than once how well she could adapt to different playstyles and she generally plays really solid.

- Professor dead piggy: Always in the top 5 of the ladders, Professor dead piggy plays really solid over all, but I must say that his counterpicks are wonderful and that he has the balls to hard counterpick (picking a territory that has a wasteland in it and that is only of use to counter an other bonus), being really often right.

- Krzychu: Top of coin leader board in nearly all seasons, at my knowledge Krzychu is one of the most feared coin games' player and the little I know about him is that he's a really top player, that he had many beautiful runs in tournaments and that I really don't know how to pronounce his name :p (Maybe someone could help me with polish pronunciation).

- master of desaster: Once again first on 1v1, 2v2 and RT ladders, master of desaster is one of the top players with a style of his own, who I believe to be very polivalent, althought I have only seen about 5 of his games in which he played in a somewhat unexpected, but very very effective way.

A few names might be lacking here, particularly the other players on the top of the ladders, and a few members of the Master, Apex and WG clans, but the little to no experience i've had of their play makes me unable to judge them.

And so, who do you think should be considered the top 1v1 strategic player?

I reckon a computer could beat all of them.

Me vs all of them? Yeah, that might be close to a fair game, I'd have to give them a head start though.

I always have maintained Timi is the best 1v1 player I've ever seen. His prediction skills are downright infuriating and he picks as well as (if not better than) Szew.

I think Latnox comes to a close 2nd. When that dude is hot, no one is beating him, literally. Look at his runs, they're downright impossible scenarios that he's gone undefeated in. I don't think he's as consistent as he can be (Look at Clan League records, other leagues etc.) but holy shit when he's on a streak he goes nuts. That's the only reason why I would argue Timi is better. If you look at the event records (WGL, Clan League, WSOW, etc.), Timi outperforms Latnox quite often.

Widzisz is a major dark horse that no one mentions. I find it funny when I see Widzisz trying out something new on the ladder, then eventually the meta shifts and people start doing things Widzisz was playing around with. I think that shows how much of an impact Widzisz is when it comes to 1v1 strategic templates. He literally forces people to think of new strategies and bizarre situations and change their strategies. Problem is he can't seem to get rank 1.

So if you see top players doing something weird, go look at Widzisz' games about a month before and you'll see something very similar being played.

@Timinator Wow, what a nice run Latnox had, crazy rating. I'll try to find a few of his games to try to analyse, any suggestions?

Naah, Latnox has the highest recorded rating in 1v1 ladder, Seasonal, and RT ladder. :P He's insane.

Ahh I'm wrong on RT ladder, but I'm betting he would if he tried long enough.

Ya, plus the RT ladder is not so active recently, shouldn't be hard to get for any elite player.

the highest record is just impossible to break anymore on the rt ladder. highest Rating you can get if you start from scratch is 2150. if someone proves me wrong i'll be impressed

Don't listen to Lolowut. I never got rank 1 (not even rank 10 lately) simply because I'm not that good. I achieved nothing. I don't think people watch my games that much, if they do, it's not to be inspired, moreso to be amused.

Interesting topic and one open for a lot of speculation. It did get me thinking ....How did I do against all these top players in 1v1 matchups?
I went thru and added up the wins and losses and surprisingly did better than expected.

JV v MOD 5-4
JV v Piggy 2-0
JV v SZE 0-0 (never played a 1v1 game)
JV v Widzisz 0-1
JV v Summer 0-1 (She was nice enough to challenge me to a game my first month in Warlight when I thought I was good. Wow did I get my ass kicked.)

I think you missed a 0 on your record vs Widzisz. We all know it's really 0-10.
