Here's the deal, I love the ladder but do think it is in need of an injection of talent. This thread is really a call out to the uber-talented non-members to fork over the $30 and join. If any talented player is debating on getting a membership already, here's a little bit of incentive:

I have committed to buying someone a membership out of sheer good will, but only one. Here's the rub, I'm not just giving it away. Any player who wants to can challenge me to a best of seven series of strategic 1 vs 1 matches. Should this person win 4 before I do, then I will pay for their membership immediately. Should I beat them, however, they will have to immediately buy one for themselves. This will be an open and extending challenge until someone is successful. In addition, I will play one person and one game at a time. If there is multiple challengers then I will begin with who I deem to be the most worthy. There is obviously an honor code here which is why sketchy characters or players with unrealistic chances will not be taken seriously.

Good luck to anyone who wants the challenge.

Ekhm: but what about players who already had played in similar gamble? May I try again or I just cant?

I'm going to have to say No just because you're technically a member because you made the promise to join after losing to BP.

Haven't played any multiplayer games yet, I just enjoy trying different strategies vs the AI...
I would however like to learn how multiplayer games are generally setup/organised, what choices people favour regarding maps/fog/cards etc...

This sounds like a fun way to see how it's done ;)

Xyphistor -- I'll actually have to deny you for this challenge. Just because it wouldn't be fair if you haven't played one 1v1 game yet. I would suggest to start joining the auto-created games in the Open games to get some practice (those settings are the ladder settings). Once you get a feel for the game and have played with lots of people you should come back and try.

Zaeban -- Looks like you'll be the first to do this series. You must understand that if you do lose, you will have to purchase a membership after the series is over. If you win, I'll have to get your email address from you so I can gift you a membership. I'll set up the games, they will be in the same exact settings as the current ladder games. They will be Multi-Day, but I'm on this site frequently and will be able to play live sometimes. Please note that there will be a 3 day auto-boot and those will be counted against you.

This first game was a good battle. We both got our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick. I was a little cautious on my expanding thinking he was in one of the russia's which slowed down my expansion. We met at Hawaii and Japan and duked it out there. I would say I got a big swing my way on turn 17 when I attacked the blockade with 1 Order delay card and he had 2. I barely hung on in Iran which pretty much sealed the deal.

I'm starting the next game but we're probably going to play it a little later.

This second game was quicker. I got to know two of his picks and so I got to choose on which one to strike first. I didn't expect him in E africa and come down, but after taking one of his bonuses he threw up the white flag.

The next game will be up shortly.

I've started playing a few 1 vs 1 games, and they're not going well...
Partly because I don't know the Medium Earth map very well, so I don't know which bonuses are the important ones...
Also because I'm playing like a moron :D

Our 3rd game was a lot closer as we were next to each other and fighting 3 fronts. Luckily I had California counter pick and it worked out for 2 of his bonuses. I had an isolated 4 bonus which really helped me out. This one was a lot closer than game 2.

Game 4 should be starting soon. Let's see if I can finish this series off!

We waited a week or so to give Zaeban a break. We started this game with all 3 spots near each other. It was a close one where choosing which front was the decider. I spoke with Zaeban and he said that he would be purchasing a Membership by next week.

Now as most of you know....Gnomia and Denzyman_UA have *not* purchased one yet and so I will be holding off on doing this challenge until I see them join. I suggest that other hosts do the same as it is unfair to everyone else and also disrespectful not to honor the bet. I hope Zaeban takes note and gets his membership in a decent time span as he played well and we'd all like to see him on the ladder.

There is a tournament going on with several non-members. Why not do it that a non-member that makes it to semi-finals gets the membership, and that if there are multiple they plater each other for it?

Each non-member would face several members in tournament, so if it's a "injection" of talent your looking for, that would be a good place to look.
