What's the fuss about political correctness all about? Why is it so strongly addressed and rejected, these days?

it's since everyone in China has to be born and long-time communist in order to get anywhere, it's not a wonder that the country is so slow now. how about any party can be "correct", eh?

George R.R. Martin "When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

To understand political correctness (or PC) lets go back to the Frankfurt school.

The Frankfurt School’s key to success was crossing Marx with Freud. They argued that just as under capitalism everyone lived in a state of economic oppression, so under Western culture people lived under psychological repression.

To "liberate" people from this psychological repression, they developed "political correctness" and "critical theory" some time after 1933.

Herbert Marcuse translated the abstruse work of the other Frankfurt School thinkers into books college students could understand, such as Eros and Civilization, which became the Bible of the New Left in the 1960s. Marcuse injected the Frankfurt School’s cultural Marxism into the baby boom generation. We know it as “multiculturalism,” “diversity” or just PC.

PC is evil because it seeks to control what can be said, and thus control what can be heard, and then what can be read and thought.

PC undermines democracy. One of the ingredients of a free election is that the candidates can speak freely. If you won't tolerate an election where nobody can criticize the incumbent's regime then you shouldn't tolerate an election where the candidate's speech is controlled.

The idea that PC fights racism, sexism, homophobia, islamaphobia, ect. is inconsistent. Surely, only when we allow the racists to speak their mind do we find out who the racists are. But in a PC society racists in the institutions (i.e. institutional racism) are pre-preemptively silenced for fear of losing their jobs. Therefore, the racists continue to infect the police, business, and government but their true nature will be concealed by their silence (and the PC that caused their silence) and they will be harder to root out.

The core of PC is that if you can shut a sexist up then you he/she will stop being a sexist. Instead, we are just violating their civil rights.

PC induces irrationality through censorship. Hence I hate it.

And I thought it is just a formal or official parlance, that expresses politeness and respect, to avoid misunderstandings and polemics. so you are basically against censorship? - I cant see the connection with PC though.

The Cruelest, Im not sure if you're just trolling or an idiot. however thanks for your insights.

PC went too far when people started getting arrested and investigated for internet memes and espousing certain political positions, such as anti-immigration. Meanwhile the police mysteriously fail to act when Muslim migrants rape women in public.

Ranek probably has me blocked with a script so I don't expect a response from him. If his strategy is to block out people with actual arguments and only attack simple buzzword pieces like the response above, then his ultimate goal is simply to feed his own ego and reinforce his own views.

Do you have source for that or is it just the expression you got from your biased media?

I respond to sophistry with sophistry. Otherwise it's not really fair. I cut people down when they need to ease off the ego juice. If you want to call out ad hominem there are a lot more examples in this thread than just that one.

Gonna need a lot of citations to prove this one lol. People are getting arrested for internet memes? People are getting jailed for having anti-immigration positions? If that was the case, surely Nigel Farage would be in jail? The police don't act on rape when it's a Muslim? That doesn't seem right in my head, feel free to source your claims.
