A few notes:
1. ZBD may have implied that Northern Ireland is majority Catholic. It is not.
2. This doesn't mean all abortion is legal in Ireland. It just means that the legislature can make laws regarding abortion. Before, if they tried to make laws it would be against the 8th amendment and presumably unconstitutional although exceptions were made recently in cases where the life of the mother was in danger (but not from suicide).
3. The YES side in Ireland was campaigning for abortion up until 12 weeks which is actually a pro life position if you lived in a rich country.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law4. There are secular arguments for human life beginning before birth and improvements to medical science are starting to justify a 22 week ban on Abortion except in extraordinary circumstances.
For example, unique DNA, unique heartbeat, and a unique blood type should imply a unique human being.
In my opinion, if you are ending an independent heartbeat then this isn't the same thing as removing a kidney.
Fetal pain research is also shifting scientific consensus.
