I don't get it. Medium Earth is WAY to overrated. To be the 'best' at Warlight, you must be good in all fields of Warlight. Which comes to my point: I challenge you. And NO I will not be using Strategic 1v1 settings...I am bad at that, and that is why I am considered worse than what my skill level actually is.

I challenge you to a Multiattack game. If you win, I will be more open to you being the best player on Warlight. Just stick with being Strategic 1v1 Master...I'll believe that more :)

he's clearly challenging the Michael Jordan of WarLight - and telling me that to be considered the greatest basketball player of all-time I must not only be the best at playing standard basketball, but also H.O.R.S.E., three-point contests and a variation of the game that involves using soccer balls instead of basketballs and in which you must play blindfolded and on one leg.

I tell him: lol

I disagree with the analogy. I think 1v1 Strategic is more like a free throw shooting contest.

http://www.nba.com/statistics/default_all_time_leaders/AllTimeLeadersFTPQuery.html?top

Jordan wasn't the best free throw shooter of all time. But he was an all-around great player: defensive first team again and again, dunk contest winner, streaky 3-point shooter (career average is lower than you'd expect), good free throw shooter, passionate, dominating overall.

Interesting logic Gui, could you provide reasoning as to why it's comparable to a free throw shooting contest and provide an example of what "standard" warlight settings would be?

It's not really logic.

There are a few games that are commonly played. Maybe these are standard settings: Strategic 1v1/2v2, Europe 3v3 (warlords and cities), Traditional Risk (can't play it on WL, but this is where WL came from). Is there really one type of game that defines anyone's overall skill level?

Why I think a free throw contest better defines Strategic 1v1:

Free throws are based on habit, form. When I shoot free throws I do the same thing again and again. I dribble a few times, look at the hoop, bend my knees a bit, bring the ball up, shoot the ball with the right form and balance, follow through, do it again.

When I play Strategic 1v1 it is the same thing. Picking is like getting my feet set, looking at the hoop to focus, and dribbling a bit to get ready for the shot. Bending my knees and bringing the ball up is like taking the first 1-3 bonuses. Shooting the ball with form and balance is like engaging the enemy. Following through is like ensuring the enemy cannot recover once I enter his bonuses.

Also, in the US I often relax by shooting around listening to music. Sometimes I shoot free throws to relax. Usually threes and trick shots. In Taiwan, I don't have a hoop nearby so I play WL to relax, listening to the news or watching movies.

playing 691 again. and again he is using his tactic of being really nice in chat so i will play him - and he plans to run here and being a dick if he wins. but he wont win again unless he pulls some more lucky turn one magic out of his hat.

game was over in turn 3

can somebody give me some pointers on how to beat people who play like that? my strategy now is perfect for people who play smart. but weirds who think going for austrialia as their first bonus and choose 2 completely terrible picks on purpose give me some problems. seems like it should be easy enough to counter tho. how?

Yeah over turn 3. In the game chat you said "no way going for australia first bonus is a good strategy long term" yeah it is a very good strategy long term (mostly) it is bad short term. I don't know how to show you that in a few sentences. Explain what you mean by "play smart", Im interested because it seems to me you miss so many basic things and still dump all over most people, and i'd like to see you fill the gaps and start dumping all over the top 10.

Predictable. I could beat red because he plays somewhat similar to how I do. I'm just a lot smarter than he is when we get down to business. We both made sensible picks and got some bonus and then went to battle.

That game I can play. It's when people do this weird picking where their whole gameplan is how to win the game in round 1, 2 or 3 that I'm having problems. I mean look at his picks. If I don't pick antactica or anything in scandinavia as my 1-3 he is dead. D.E.A.D. That was his whole gameplan, hoping to pick perfectly against my picks and then win really fast.

What's the counter strategy to that?

Turn 1 you had a few good options:
1. assume he doesnt attack scand first turn and just take it. If you succeed the 3v2 you can be sure of an advantage and missing isnt necessarily the end of the world.
2. assume he does deploy 5 and attack last move (a counter to 1). You just deploy in greenland (ideally you would have a 5territory bonus you could reliably finish in 2 turns for this strategy instead of greenland) and try to get an advantage in finishing a big bonus fast.
3 deploy 5 to scand and attack him after moving in both of your other territories. Its risky because if he chooses to do the same and gets last move or not move at all youre going to eat it.
4. deploy enough in finland to hold him off and complete the bonus slowly.

Problem was you started 4. but tried to get india aswell which was too slow because you strated at one end of it and you didnt have the income to efficiently take 2 bonuses.
