every game in existence has safeguards (some are way too extreme for sure), but i got a quickmatch just now vs someone who'd never played a game ever (using that account) with a name that no serious game would allow. I'm totally ok with a wargame that has a whole bunch of Hitlers, Stalins and Pol Pots, that's historical and war-related (although I do wonder if they know the history of genocide--- but whatever), but there has to be a certain limit and it is easy to program the game registration to disallow certain character strings. Yes, some jerk will come up with some ascii character that looks like an N or G or an R and circumvent, but don't make it easy for them. C'mon.

@Mongoose: That account is an alt of an already banned troll, and will be banned as soon as the admins take action.

But to get back to your point, yes, we do need something that forces usernames to stay within a limit.
And Fizzer should loop over all accounts named n**ger and auto warn+rename them.

These kind of filters can be tricky to set up right. I remember when Creative Assembly implemented one on their forums Pakistan would become ****stan, Homo sapiens would become **** sapiens, and, in perfect dramatic irony, Creative Assembly would become Creative ***embly.

Yes, that is also how the current bad words filter on mobile works (aka doesnt work).

While replacing all ass with *** (making vassal and assassin bad words) is not a good solution, at least making it so that usernames cannot contain the string "ni{}er".format("gg") would help a bit. And sure, they will just make it some other variation of the word, but at least it lets those players know that a racist name is not accepted.

If a name restriction list is put in place we can then fix any issues caused by it. But if you’re gonna name yourself homo sapien and it doesn’t let you, maybe just think of a better name?

Edit: but in the end I’d rather have a community with cringe names like xxxDogZillaxxx then Adolf Hitler.
