Most people don't have problems with the American people or the American culture, but I'd say the US government and its foreign policy is hated all across the world, mostly because of their habit of interfering in other country's affairs (Middle East, Russia, Asia) in desperate attempts to to demonstrate American Imperialism and maintain the ever decreasing American hegemony in the world.

Plus the US government is world famous for its hypocritical foreign policy, the war of aggression in Iraq, the classic strategy of interfering to deliberately set other nations apart, then benefiting from arms sales and also their colder diplomacy ties with each other (and thus better with US). Not to mention all it does in the name of 'democracy' and 'freedom', often trying to force its export version of democracy down the throat of other countries and causing chaos during and after.

American Imperialism is the single biggest threat to world peace today.

But I have no problem with Americans, good food, good clothes, good people, good movies and many more.

This is not really true about American imperialism, right Obama foreign relations worse, but remember what would happen if Americans did not intervene in what is happening to the world, I think that according to Obama it was not terrible, but Obama did not try to spread democracy, he just does not help anyone So one of the world's countries are destroyed.
What are related to what happened for example in Egypt? They supported "democracy" of the Muslim Brotherhood but did not intervene, and then there was a revolution and they intervened? No, why do you blame them Baimfrlizm?

I usually try to have a reasonable approach to this problem, and though the US (and the americans) can be very annoying at times, I try not to generalize, and I know most of you guys are not inbred gun loving, fag hating, god worshiping white trash patriotic assholes.

But the mess you made on the "french shootings" thread kind of pissed me off. Even smart americans it seems can't help but always bring everything back to them. Egocentric atttitude like that is pathological, really. Not everything in the world is about you, and if someone disagrees with you he's not an "commie islamist who hates freedom".

A big problem is the neo-American Exceptionalism view that gets shoved down most of our throats. My whole life I've been told

America is the best country in the world,

nobody else comes close,

America is perfect,

the world only runs because we police it,

our freedoms are only freedoms and best freedoms,

every invention and scientific discovery worth a damn came from us,

if you visit any other country, you'll make love to the ground when you get back to the US because everywhere else sucks so much,

etc etc etc ad infinitum.

It's very difficult to be surrounded by that all the time and not end up retarded like most Americans. I can understand why people don't like us.

Racism divides the country more and more every year. I'm not just talking about southerners racist against blacks either. Reverse racism is an even worse problem, any criticism of a minority individual is about as taboo as criticizing someone's religion. Probably more taboo, actually.

I'm definitely not proud of my country... anybody have a nice suggestion on somewhere else I can live? :D

Each country with many minorities have a lot of racism, rather than the government, these people are not tolerant, not always there is racism Some people say they are discriminated against for benefits they do not try to move forward, for example demonstration in the US black boy shot, most people just looking for a reason to riot, especially lower class ...

Once I learned to start with the good things. This deserves some time for reflection...
I havent been in the USA, so far, but as far as I know there are beautiful countrysides. Your cultural achievements are massively influencing the whole world, which isnt always a good thing but this might depend on opinion. You scientific progress is admirable. The few americans I know are very friendly and polite, they mostly intend to be perfect gentlemen.

Unfortunately american society seems to be devided into extremes. They do and did have leading personalities on various topics, as well as dumb radicals, which refuse scientific achievements, good sense and social advance for the benefit of blind faith, racism and megalomania. In many places american society is awfully backwarded. To mention only few major issues: armed civilians, a lack of social primary care, like a civil health ensurance, creationism, legalized torture and the fear of the unknown, especially foreign religions.

I dont want to go into further detail. In my opinion, basing on my prejudices, the USA turns out to be a brutalized, ruthless hillbilly nation.

Which great things have racists in America? 1 Tell me, what makes you think that it is common? It is a country of 300 million, it is impossible to enforce and to know everything.

This is the most tolerant country in the world, all in an immigrant, she a dark country?

Elroi, US is surely not the most tolerant country in the world. Again, racism and xenophobia. View Dairiy as an example. Patriotism/Nationalism, as Little Blue demonstrated, is amok. I'd say even more tolerant is Israel, if you are not Arab.

Wow, foreigners don't like the fact that we own guns. Explain to me why.

Look at history. When peopled try to rebel with out weapons they end up dead. What would happen if The colonies didn't have guns? Or the French revolution? Look at Ukraine they walk around with shields and hard hats and get massacred.

Think of it, if everybody owned guns the government would fear the people.( To me this is good that way government doesn't walk all over the people)

Now you may say, "But what happens when a guy decides to go homicide?" well my answer would be that you would be stupid to go homicide because everybody has a gun.

Another question is, " Our forefathers didn't have our technology back then so they only thought of muskets and other old weaponry." My reply is this, our forefathers let us have guns that way we can defy a corrupt government if the time comes we may have a chance to fight back.

Tactically when many citizens own guns who would want to invade the heartland? Even if you destroy the military you will still have a militia to deal with.

I think the pros out way the cons on this subject.

I really doubt that Switzerland can be considered tolerant. As far as I know they were quite racist :S

I can understand that people feel safer having a gun, but if no one has a gun, then everybody is safer. If a guy is nuts and has a pistol, he can go to a school, or a cinema and kill others. If it is not possible for him to have a gun, there is no problem.
