yes, strategic 1v1 is one of the many strategic templates available to a warlight game creator. just cause it's the most popular doesn't mean it's the only strategic template

No one said strategic 1v1 is the only strategic template.

The thread is about what makes a template strategic and fit into the strategic game type, not what strategy is in general.

I even said all games have strategy, but the thing you don’t understand is not every template is strategic in the sense of belonging into the strategic game type.

by definition any template that requires strategy is a strategic template. the fact that you're afraid of trying different settings doesn't mean that anybody who creates a template that you don't like isn't playing a strategic template

QueefBalls vs DanWL bo11? I'll place my bets on a 6-4 win for QueefBalls.

You’re ignoring my point entirely. It’s the pre-tense to this thread.

I’ve actually played with all the settings. I’ve never been afraid of settings. I even make my own by writing mods.

Everyone has their own reasons for not liking templates. Some like big maps, some smaller. I prefer 1v1s on small-medium maps.

I don’t say templates aren’t strategic if I don’t like them. What makes a template strategic or fall into any game type is how settings are combined.

Also you’ve still not given any game links of what makes airlifts strategic every time you said they are.

lol I appreciate your confidence in me but I'd be lucky to win 1 against Dan.

I never said he wasn't a great player, just that he has a narrow-minded view of the game

I really don’t have a narrow mind about the game

but you do have a narrow view, if you're not willing to accept that strategy exists outside of your preferred templates. you're basically presenting yourself as the gatekeeper of what constitutes strategy and that's 100% wrong

here's a game from this year's Bork Her Poon Classic where both teams used airlift cards strategically

maybe you can join the next one of pooncrews tournaments and show us all how strategy is done the Dan way

I didn’t say strategy doesn’t exist outside of my preferred templates.

but you're saying settings you don't like aren't strategic without any real explanation outside of "it doesn't exist on the template that some of us prefer to play"

if you don't like airlifts nobody is forcing you to use them but their use and presence in a game template necessitates strategic planning just like everyone else.

if you're still confused about how to use them strategically I left some helpful tips in a previous comment

Automatic territory distribution isnt strategic because players don't evaluate the usefulness bonuses and their relative safety. Read any strategy guide. Picks matter loads.

No-luck cycle encourages suboptimal play. Is better to have cyclic instead. There's been threads saying how it's bad and should be plain cyclic instead. It's been mentioned in https://www.warzone.com/Forum/689222-pure-skill-ladder-update.

so you have to adjust your strategy based on where you start, and a few things are out of your control, much like any strategy game that involves a deck of cards.

no-luck cyclic is strategic as it relies on pure skill. cyclic is strategic too but that introduces just as much of a chance factor as auto dist

You lose lots of strategic depth with automatic territory distribution.

You dont understand move order. Cyclic and no-luck cycle are the same except the latter actually lists whos turn it is and is first-turn speed based. In cycle, you go through history to find out who's turn it is, based on move order. https://www.warzone.com/wiki/Move_Order

also lol at that thread. joining a game earlier or later makes no difference. you clicking begin and making your picks doesn't tell your opponent how fast you picked them. if I make my picks in 5 seconds and my opponent makes their picks in 10 seconds I've done it faster and get first order regardless of whether they hit commit before me

Your skill level is too low to understand implications.

you only lose strategic depth if your view of warlight strategy can't expand beyond ladder templates. the strategy just changes because you have to make adjustments based on factors out of your control

The time deciding on the priority in no-luck-cycle games is the time between pressing "begin" and "commit".

so it's less strategic because it tells you the move order rather than making you check turn history to get the same amount of information? lol. that's not how strategy works

yeah. if I hit begin and make my picks in 5 seconds at 2:00, all my opponent can see when they make their picks at 4:00 is that I've committed orders. it's up to them to try and make picks faster than 5 seconds if they want first orders

It gives you information that better players know how to find out. The better player (the one who knows the game mechanics better as a whole) should win.
