Ⓐrun wrote: Drop Fizzer a line at fizzer@warlight.com :) It's a very common mistake for people to assume that everyone owns the .com for their brand. Here, you accidentally mis-wrote my e-mail address as .com instead of .net. I have no idea if the player actually emailed me, as I wouldn't have gotten it, as we don't own warlight.com. You aren't the only one who makes this mistake -- it gets made a lot. I see it on twitter and other places. People often just assume the address is a .com since it's, by far, the most popular top level domain. Every time this mistake is made, it's an opportunity for lost traffic. I find it a bit funny that the same person who mis-wrote the domain also came on this thread and says "There is ZERO reason to change the domain." Clearly, there's a reason. As I mentioned earlier, we tried really hard to acquire warlight.com, but the owner would not sell it to us.

No Ghengis, its about much more. We (Arun mostly) are the first to say we love a new feature, but when we say he hate something new because it dramatically effects the game, we deserve to be listened to. We all have a part in this game, and over the years, we've invested more hours than we'd care to say into it. The Dashboard, I'm not a huge fan of, but I could deal with it. Coins, eh, eventually I could live with, I just wont use mine ever. But this, and this new Mercer character are beginning to make me feel less and less like an individual on a game where I know most of the forum posters and more and more like I'm playing some giant browser game with like 1 million people and Ill never get to know the other forum posters. because thats what Fizzer wants, a million player game, a cash cow he can force an update out to every now and then to keep us content. This was a game for us to be a "family" of sorts. Our father figure has abandoned us. Why Fizzer why?

I don't see why this is the biggest deal in the world to you guys. I think this should have happened before the game could be played on Kongate (or whatever that site is called) so that it felt a little more needed instead of a random change, but then again, I don't make games that many people through out the world have played. I like the name Warlight, but it does sound kinda stupid/childish to a person who has not heard of this game before, and its all about marketing.
Also, well the layout/color scheme of the website change when the game is called Warzone instead of Warlight? This is kinda important when designing a logo as a purple logo does not go well with a site that is a color like yellow or green.

Apologies in advance for the long post, skip it if you don't care that much.
I understand what Fizzer has been saying. Every single time I have tried to tell someone about how much I love this game Warlight, the conversation goes like this: "War-what?" "Warlight: like the word war, then light, like a light bulb." "Oh, ok." "Also, it's warlight.net." "Oh, got it. [blankly stares at me like they have no idea what I'm talking about]" "Do you have a pen and paper, I'll just write it down for you." "Ok, thanks..." They never understand me the first time and then after that little discussion, they aren't nearly as excited to try the game as they were just minutes ago. My (very brief) background in sales taught me that closing needs to be quick and painless. You can get a person super pumped about anything, but then if there's a long and/or confusing procedure between when they want it and when they can get it, they are likely to just give up. Warzone.com is a much easier name to understand the first time it's said. Also, there are potential new people to pick up with the name. Fizzer claims we'll be the top search result. If that's so, people searching for warzone 2100 and that out of print board game might stumble upon us.
But I also like what Braak said a while back. You don't have to ask EVERYONE to get good feedback, Fizzer. You can ask a few trusted people for some different perspectives and let's not forget some additional researching power. However, like others have said, this is your game. You made it, you do what you want with it. War Zone is a boring, generic sounding name. But I didn't join or stay for 2 years because I liked the name "Warlight."
And people, why is Fizzer wanting to make more money a bad thing? How many hours of work has he put into this site for FREE?? He has certainly worked at least full time hours for years, and what does he have to show for it? A strong community of people who love his game and yell and bitch at him everytime he makes the most superficial of changes that don't even affect the actual game play! Large parts of this discussion remind me of what happens every time Facebook changes. I didn't stay here for 2 years because of the "community," either. You can find other strong communities all over the web with any group of people you share a common interest with.
The reason I stayed here for 2 years is because I like the game play. I keep playing, because unlike so many games, Warlight doesn't have micropurchases. You aren't forced to pay to keep going. You can't even pay for any sort of advantage. Fizzer himself has no in game advantage over someone who just joined today. That is not common in today's post-Farmville era of gaming. I'm not much of a gamer, but I can't think of any other completely free games that have been around for over 5 years.
Keep up the good work, Fizzer!

"War-what" is such a common answer to what I hear when I tell people the name of my favorite game.
Second comment, is about the lite or light.
Third is about .net verse .com.
Installing the game should be super easy. When telling people at parties they only have their cell phone.
I like the idea of warzone, but it will need to rank in the first spot of Google, having the exact match domain should do the trick.

I've given some thought to this over the years, as many people have asked me if it's War-Light or War-Lite. I understand the need for the name change, but does anyone else agree that WarLite may be a more appropriate change.
In addition, having the title "-Lite" implies that it's not a FPS war game as "WarZone" implies, but rather something a bit less intense, as the word "Lite has come to mean.
As I check the domain name of "Warlite.com, I find that it already redirects to WarLight. This domain name is already owned by Fizzer, so the only issue would be changing the official website address. Additionally, I mean no offense to you, Fizzer, as we all know you have put in so much time to improve this game. I am simply putting out an option that might create fewer repercussions within the WarLight community.
In conclusion, does anyone agree with me that "WarLite" may be a more sensible change than "WarZone"?

if you want to complain about the .net thing, Forza Motorsport (the game that sells several million copies a year, that one) has a .net. Is IT dead?

Wondering how long it would take for someone to say that...
also have you checked out the Forza forum? I tried it and it is SO BLODDY STUPID IT MAKES ME WANT TO CRY.
I now appreciate having a forum without moderators so much more now. The fact is it will happen (the name change), and putting in forum moderators (unless I was one and could troll all the others) is the only thing that would make me stop playing War-whatever.
