Put me in the 'don't change the name' camp.
You own warlight on google. You'll never own warzone. Competing with established games, apps, movies, and even the very common phrase 'war zone'.
How about, we design a better warlight logo and you go with that? :D

Lawlz and Julius... are you trying to convince people to be in favor of this change? I mean, promising to leave should the name change proceed is a pretty good endorsement for leaving the name Warlight behind

I'll be honest, Fizz.
I don't like this. I don't see much need to change, but if your mind is made up, at least let us give suggestions for new names...
Among the other problems raised here, it touches a nerve with me. Reminds me of ZapZone. Running around as a kid, shooting other kids with 'lasers'. Warzone? eugh. It just sounds juvenile. Sort of a 'no girls allowed' feeling.
I emplore you to reconsider.
Sincerely, Gror.

I can't find how this game fits into a zone, although I've also noticed that the site has been pushing itself much more as a play risk online type game now, as long as I can still log on via warlight.net, I'm not going to care and probably forget that the name changed.

The new name makes more sense as the old one. It also sounds less gay then war"light". :) I cant think of a better sounding name as "Zone" for the place we are waging war in. Edit: I made my logo in Inkscape, so it is easy to modify or extract the "W" and the "Z" out of it for a small icon/(clan)logo. Also, if someone want to make a map out of it than that wont be a problem too.

I don't particularly like the name either - but then "Warlight" isn't that attractive either - we're just used to it. Thankfully, it's not the name, nor the logo that make this game what it is - it is the community, and I think we should all try to be a little supportive to what Fizzer is trying to do.
It's always difficult to tell, when faced with change, whether we are responding instinctively towards the change, because change is an unsettling experience, or whether the fabric of the changes are actually unpleasant. In my experience it is almost always the first, and it is an important lesson if you wish to grow and develop anything; whether a business or a social group, or your own persona, to always give change a fair run.
It is of course important to be pragmatic about changes you wish to implement, to ensure that you have the best chance of getting the change to achieve something positive and to make it stick, and I'm sure Fizzer has considered his options. At the moment, the community's knee-jerk reaction to recent change has been derision, threats and denial - these are natural reactions to the change process, but I implore you for a while to keep these reactions to yourself, and see what happens in the course of time. If after a month or two, you still don't like the change, then that is the time to open up a discussion about it.
These reactions will cause genuine needs for change being voiced by the community to be ignored, as either inertia draws all future development to a stop, or because it becomes impossible to discern between useful suggestion and rhetoric.

As that is important to you, then it may well be a good time to sound the community out about it, you should start a thread - see what people think, there may be amendments that could be made now that will benefit everybody.

I totally understand your reactions and desire to stay with the same name. Change is difficult, and this site will continue feeling like "WarLight" for a long time to come. However, that feeling will eventually pass.
First off, to those citing that "Googling Warzone doesn't find us" -- trust me, it will. I expect that, eventually, Googling for Warzone will return us as the top link and also be filled with links about us across the first page. If this doesn't happen for some reason, we'd definitely fix it.
A lot of the challenge in picking names has to do with domain names, too. Acquiring domain names is not easy. We tried really hard to acquire warlight.com but the owner would not sell it to us.
We talked a lot about doing some sort of survey or involving the community in the name change. However, if we ran a poll, it would tip off the owners of those domains what we plan to use them for and make negotiations more difficult. We were able to negotiate get a great deal on warzone.com, which was one of our top choices, so we jumped on it.
Really, the biggest motivation in changing the name is because "Warlight" is such an odd word. My experience has been that most people, when hearing it for the first time, don't even understand what they heard. And even if they do, they never know how to spell it. Warzone is much easier to recognize since it's an actual english word.
