Apologies in advance for the long post, skip it if you don't care that much.
I understand what Fizzer has been saying. Every single time I have tried to tell someone about how much I love this game Warlight, the conversation goes like this: "War-what?" "Warlight: like the word war, then light, like a light bulb." "Oh, ok." "Also, it's warlight.net." "Oh, got it. [blankly stares at me like they have no idea what I'm talking about]" "Do you have a pen and paper, I'll just write it down for you." "Ok, thanks..." They never understand me the first time and then after that little discussion, they aren't nearly as excited to try the game as they were just minutes ago. My (very brief) background in sales taught me that closing needs to be quick and painless. You can get a person super pumped about anything, but then if there's a long and/or confusing procedure between when they want it and when they can get it, they are likely to just give up. Warzone.com is a much easier name to understand the first time it's said. Also, there are potential new people to pick up with the name. Fizzer claims we'll be the top search result. If that's so, people searching for warzone 2100 and that out of print board game might stumble upon us.
But I also like what Braak said a while back. You don't have to ask EVERYONE to get good feedback, Fizzer. You can ask a few trusted people for some different perspectives and let's not forget some additional researching power. However, like others have said, this is your game. You made it, you do what you want with it. War Zone is a boring, generic sounding name. But I didn't join or stay for 2 years because I liked the name "Warlight."
And people, why is Fizzer wanting to make more money a bad thing? How many hours of work has he put into this site for FREE?? He has certainly worked at least full time hours for years, and what does he have to show for it? A strong community of people who love his game and yell and bitch at him everytime he makes the most superficial of changes that don't even affect the actual game play! Large parts of this discussion remind me of what happens every time Facebook changes. I didn't stay here for 2 years because of the "community," either. You can find other strong communities all over the web with any group of people you share a common interest with.
The reason I stayed here for 2 years is because I like the game play. I keep playing, because unlike so many games, Warlight doesn't have micropurchases. You aren't forced to pay to keep going. You can't even pay for any sort of advantage. Fizzer himself has no in game advantage over someone who just joined today. That is not common in today's post-Farmville era of gaming. I'm not much of a gamer, but I can't think of any other completely free games that have been around for over 5 years.
Keep up the good work, Fizzer!

"War-what" is such a common answer to what I hear when I tell people the name of my favorite game.
Second comment, is about the lite or light.
Third is about .net verse .com.
Installing the game should be super easy. When telling people at parties they only have their cell phone.
I like the idea of warzone, but it will need to rank in the first spot of Google, having the exact match domain should do the trick.

I've given some thought to this over the years, as many people have asked me if it's War-Light or War-Lite. I understand the need for the name change, but does anyone else agree that WarLite may be a more appropriate change.
In addition, having the title "-Lite" implies that it's not a FPS war game as "WarZone" implies, but rather something a bit less intense, as the word "Lite has come to mean.
As I check the domain name of "Warlite.com, I find that it already redirects to WarLight. This domain name is already owned by Fizzer, so the only issue would be changing the official website address. Additionally, I mean no offense to you, Fizzer, as we all know you have put in so much time to improve this game. I am simply putting out an option that might create fewer repercussions within the WarLight community.
In conclusion, does anyone agree with me that "WarLite" may be a more sensible change than "WarZone"?

if you want to complain about the .net thing, Forza Motorsport (the game that sells several million copies a year, that one) has a .net. Is IT dead?

Wondering how long it would take for someone to say that...
also have you checked out the Forza forum? I tried it and it is SO BLODDY STUPID IT MAKES ME WANT TO CRY.
I now appreciate having a forum without moderators so much more now. The fact is it will happen (the name change), and putting in forum moderators (unless I was one and could troll all the others) is the only thing that would make me stop playing War-whatever.

Forza Motorsport (the game that sells several million copies a year, that one) has a .net That's a console game, meaning that to play it, one has to actually go out and get a DVD from a store (or maybe they have digitial purchase from within the xbox console, I'm not sure.) But either way, their primary goal as a company is to get people to buy it off the shelf when they're browsing, or to download it when they're sitting at their xbox. Therefore, their domain is not really as important compared to WarLight, where our primary goal is to get someone to type our name into their browser. HankyPinky hit it dead on. Whenever someone asks me what the name of my game is, their reaction is usually to say "What?". The name WarLight just isn't easy to process the first time one hears it.

@ Fizzer:
I have just one question remaining: as soon as Warlight definitively transfers to warzone.com, will the old site warlight.net go on linking to the new site? That way, it can be found on Google and other search engines by typing Warlight as well as by typing Warzone.
I think that will further enlarge the community. Also, I hope it will encourage old players to keep playing as they can still access the site the old way, even though it is now on a new adress.
Also one more tip: give players some more time to get used to new features before lounching new big features. For example, many people of the [NL Duch forever] clan, including me, where just barely used to the coin games when the dashboard came, and now we are just getting used to the dashboard, you launch a complete name and site change! That's quite someting to process for a lot of players.
Anyway, though I don't really like the new name, I think we can get used to it. Also, I understand why you change the name, you made some good points out there.
Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Emillio.

+1 to braak and +1 to arc and warlite.com
it always slightly annoyed me that this game had the word war in the title. for me this ain't about war, when you say war in gaming you think realtime, shooting, bombing. this game ain't about any of that, it's about the tactical aspect. that's one of the reasons why i dislike warzone. so many better names you could come up with in a little brainstorm session.
that and the ominous red and black, blood and darkness, like we're being sent out for a slaughter when you just end up thinking and clicking.
imagine playing online chess with red and black colors all around you. and call it warmongrel. let's play some warmongrel. queen to bishop 5!
don't see why the light in warlight could not have been used to come up with a new name with a more positive vibe. focusing on the strategic instead of death and bombs war scenarios. but well, that's just me.

@ Fizzer: maybe i'm missing something here (tl;dr) but have you considered getting warlight.com? it seems like it's available. edit: nvm, i see now: As I mentioned earlier, we tried really hard to acquire warlight.com, but the owner would not sell it to us. which means that they want more $ than you are willing to offer. since "warlight" is a made-up name, i'm assuming the person who bought the .com has some history with warlight. i'm picturing it's righ knight just trolling the shit out of you.
