Hello,

Currently, I am working on a detailed map which will illustrate the Eastern Theater of war during World War Two. I am still in the early stages of development, but I thought that sharing the concept to garner suggestions would be beneficial in the long run.

Progess so far: https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=42617
(Finishing Germany then starting work on the Soviet Union.)

I would like to note that the majority of the bonuses currently included will not be in the final version. The reason I have placed them in is to help me stay organized later on. However, the concept of industry / military ports / military academies will stay well into the final version.

Kind regards,

Rommel

If anyone wants to help out I do need assistance researching major research centers (military focused) and officer/military academies for each of the countries present. (IE. Soviet Union, German Reich, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Bulgaria, and to a lesser extent Croatia.)

It's looking promising so far.

And this is the third recent WW2 map, that's interesting.

I would consider looking into river crossings, etc and make territories of the bridges to create choke points on the map.

Mugzybrown I was thinking the same and as you can see the Danube River that passes through Hungary I have certain places where the territory connects. This represents main railways that went over the major rivers. Bridges is all and good, but there are dozens of them and they do not transport nearly the amount of men and material that railways did during the war.

Too early to tell anything, but I assume you're using German. Just don't forget the old Ostpreußen names (Köningsberg)

It may look wonky, but I had considered a map that would have long rectangular territories running through the lands to signify rail travel vs land travel, so what would take 5 turns to traverse would only take 2.

Something like that could also be used with local deployment.

Set up bonuses for cities, connect cities with rail

It has dawned on me that the Pinsk Marshes need to be represented somehow. What I was thinking was only mapping the Russian railroads that ran through them, however, this would translate weirdly onto the map. Maybe with an illustration of some sort to fill in the would-be empty spots. Ideally, this would create a choke-point where a rather large portion of the German-Russian border would be impassable, or difficult to traverse.

What do you folks think? Is there a good way to represent the swamps?

Mugzybrown, the map I am currently using for reference has every single rail line that existed in this era. Thus, for Germany 95% of the territory would be these railroad territories, ha. I enjoy the idea but am not so sure it will translate in Warlight very well.

Well the idea would be to connect some major cities, not replicate all of them :)

I'm not sure removing territories like that is a good idea, but maybe it makes a lot of sense with the map you're using, may we see it?

I recommend just drawing in swamps as borders and making the whole place being very zigzag.

Seeing that I am 60% done with Romania (although additional research will be conducted to determine if any other special bonuses will be added to them) it is time to decide the next nation to tackle.

To put my thoughts in word, I was thinking about starting Germany or Bulgaria next and even though I am really looking forward to starting the Soviet Union the task is a little overwhelming and I feel it would be best saved for last.

Also, I would love to hear any thoughts on what I am doing well or not so well. Stylistically, naming conventions, etc.

Cheers

Are you going to add any more boni? The industries and academies can only get you so far.

Of course, as I had mentioned in the orginal post the bonuses are not reflective of the final version. I will add traditional bonus types once I have filled the map. It will be done, but it will be the last thing I do.
