Its fun reading Clan rankings, but just take them with a grain of salt.

Yeah, the reason why MoD, Chris, and I have never attempted making a list is that we are biased. We overrate clans by emotional value and underrate them the same way. This was evident when Chris and I did predictions for Clan League. Chris overrated WG, I overrated Apex, and we both made huge flaws in analyzing the other clans because we don't know them so well. I'm not going to make a post to where I say Apex isn't the best clan in something, because a lot of being a highly competitive player is to always feel pumped up and ready to take #1 in every category, while secretly practicing hard because you know your opponents are serious.

The only unbiased way to rank clans is to go based on what they say about themselves - i.e. their name.

GG (Good Gamers): They play well.

Masters: they are qualified to take on apprentices.

Blitz: they play fast

Lynx: they are wild cats (or they like body spray)

French Community: they are French

VS: ?

AHoL: a**holes online

WG (War Gamers): they play war games

Warlighters: they play Warlight

Apex: they are the pinnacle of skill

ONE!: they are number 1

Therefore it's quite obvious - the two best clans are apex and ONE.

Notice how the thread is called "Benjamin628's Clan Rankings" not
"Unbiased Clan Ranking" or anything. GG is clearly the best 1v1 clan right now. 20 Plays Team games the best, particularly 3v3.

While I might not agree %100 with the rankings, I appreciate the fact Ben did them. too often on here I see noobs with terrible 'rating' systems. While they are all biased, this one is at least a rational ranking, even if we all might tweak it some.

Ben, would you care to elaborate why [20] are the best in team games? I'm not convinced with just the statement.

Well it all depends on if you count inactives, I think that Sze, Odin & Myhand would beat ChrisCMU, Gnuffone & Summer or whatever WGs EU team is. If you don't count inactives, all you really have is Fridge (I guess he is out of retirement), Sze (top player in the game), Odin (top 10 player in the game), and Psy (better at team games than most). I'm sure someone could put together a team that would beat these guys, but it is looking very tough to beat them. Similar to GG, Latnox is a candidate for the top 1v1 player in the game, but he's gone. Mike is probably GGs top player right now.

myhand is currently in zero games and has zero points in the last 30 days. Counting him seems foolish. To win the clan league, they would need 5 active players, right now you can barely make a case they have 2 active players.

I'm not saying 20 is dead, but I also don't think you can just say "If they were active". If so, then you must also say IF Latnox is active for GG and IF marc is active for WG and IF grona/ultamaratio are active for apex and IF Darkpie is active for Lynx.

Just go with what the status of these clans are right now. No point in debating hypotheticals.

20 the clan has died. Sze's recruitment mail to piggy and others confirms this more or less. I paraphrase: "20 is a collection of top players more than a clan, join us and play clan league for anyone you want." That's not a cri de guerre of a clan.

Chris is right about inactivity. Hypothetical situations don't matter much. If you are a top clan, prove it by playing in clan league A. If you are an active top player, prove it by winning a few meaningful games every so often. 20 the clan is inactive. RIP.

If 20 the clan wants to prove something, make a tournament and invite GG, WG, Masters, Apex and the French. These are the only clans capable of winning clan league.

Ben, Sze is not "the top player." Please don't become another JSA fanboy. There is no top player in Warlight. Why? Because there is no metric to determine one and too many different game modes (LD, team, FFA, MA, 1v1, etc.), maps and settings (SR, WR, autodistribution, cities, warlords, open distribution, luck%, cards, etc.) that certain different top players do better at than others.

A comparison of Sze and me: I am better than him at FFA, LD, MA game modes. He is better than me at SR (his preferred setting). I am better than him at WR (my preferred setting). I am better than him at autodistribution, where pattern recognition seems to confuse him a bit. I think I am more comfortable with more cards than he is. I am better than him at the 1v1 and 2v2 ladders. He is better than me at the RT ladder. His comfort zone for settings and maps seems to be a bit more limited than mine. Is he better than me? Yes, sometimes. Am I better than him? Yes, sometimes. Who is better overall? It depends on what you look at and how much weight is given to certain things over others.

This type of comparison could be made for all top players. Not one is the best until somebody makes a tournament similar to clan league in which only top players participate ACROSS MULTIPLE SEASONS in order to increase the sample size. 20 has never been that tournament, since not once have at least 80% of the top active players participated using balanced rules/matchups.

So anyone who says any player is the best is naive.

I just found it funny you put CORP in the top 20 and not REGL :)
The rankings after the top 10 are too subjective I think - there noone knows enough about the clans to be able to rank them credibly. And VIW seems to be ranked 14 oddly often for some strange reason.

I completely forgot about REGL, sorry about that.
