I am not that active on the forums, but I made a specific visit to find a thread about the new card designs. Surprise, surprise, it was at the top of the general forum.
I agree with the majority here, the cards didn't need changed, they are hard to tell apart, and it doesn't matter what we think. I certainly will say I will be making games with a lot less cards from now on. Maybe that's Fizzer's plan all along; get people to stop using cards, so that he can introduce more units.
@Omniscient I am strongly considering it, I just wanted to give fizzer the benefit of the doubt, but I think knyte is right, it might be time to make our own now...
I don't like the designs, they are too confusing. I liked the old ones because of their simplicity. It was easy to know what was each one only with a look, now you can't do that because there are a lot of similar designs...
I know I'm in the minority when I say this, but I like the new cards.
Edit: Although they're not perfect, and they're not better than the original cards, I still feel as though they are good in their own way. As someone else stated earlier, the cards aren't the problem, it's the fact that the creation of new card designs was prioritized over things that the warlight community actually wants to see changed.
Main reason is simply that I have slowish internet, and so when I check what cards I have, it takes ages for the pictures on them to load so I can tell the cards apart. Once they are loaded, there is the other issue that they all look similar at a glance.
Reinforcement: Tanks and planes. Cool... Spy: A school teacher with a puny gun and a cigarette. Emergency Blockade: Lolowut with diarrhea. OP: More smoking. General playing with toy tanks and slamming his finger on the map so hard he bleeds. OD: General gets drugs for injured finger and sleeps. Airlift: Pilot having trouble landing or taking off. Don't expect those armies any time soon... Gift Card: Fizzel Castro, our Dear Leader. Diplomacy: Used car salesman with 80s-hair and a guy with AIDS shake hands after the guy with AIDS sells his car to cover medical expenses. Sanctions: The Navy? I guess that is what economic sanctions represent...if you don't know anything. Reconnaissance: Tank-Man (half tank, half man) has a massive penis and spies on tank-girls in the distance with his hand ready to go. Blockade: That sort of looks like me. If so, I am saying, "Stop making stupid cards that we can't understand when they are mere pieces." Bomb Card: Two nukes. More family-friendly shit.
Ok I'm hearing a lot of complaints but has anyone actually played the wrong card by mistake because of the new graphics? You sound like old people complaining about big screen TVs reminiscing of the old CRTs. While it doesn't change gameplay, it adds some comic book style appeal Tho eventually I'd like to see multiple decks players could choose from, different characters etc... Make it like a Magic or Pokemon trading deck (for the record I don't have Pokemon cards)
Kain, wow this is a good job really! And you see, I am sure Fizzer wasted his own money as he had to hire someone to design the current cards. If he only asked to the community about it... To people that know better Warlight than some random designers..
@Angry Koala - thx for you appreciation!! Iam glad you like it. I am wondering abouth the lower part of them though - it is a bit "empty" - shall I add sth there (stripes?)
its not the graphics that people are complaining about. The simplicity of Warlight is what draws most people in. However the pictures do look pretty. The real problem is that there are many things that need to be done in warlight, an improvement on the cards graphics wasn't one of them while Frizzer claims that he only updates the necessities and others aren't on his roadmap. The he does random shit like this. It would be fine if he had better updates with it as well.
This is really great! I already like them. I wish we would have that option to switch to your suggested ArtWork! Maybe only Bomb card would need some Cannon or explosive imagery from 17/18th century.
@Nogals - yeah, I was just trying to show that such shitty things like graphic gimmicks could be done with the use of community - for FREE and supposedly BETTER (as it was also pointed by Angry Koala). Meantime Fizzer could invest his time and resources into changes that people here crave for for ages.
