Nobody has told me what a vote is. I'm a 5 year old boy new to the internet who has never heard of this voting thing before. Are you going to deprive a 5yo from the knowledge that is the fundamentals of our modem society? For shame.

Anywho i already say this update had no idea where it wanted to go or do.

Instead of hiding posts, maybe, you could just let certain things get downvoted to hell. Or just have a separate option where you could flag for spam and let a mod look at it.

As it is, ridiculous amounts of threads or posts are hidden just because people disagree with it or sth. I think it's just silly that you can have a bunch of alts (levels don't counteract this whatsoever) and just hide any post or thread.

People already seem to do this, just downvoting everything.

This is not 2013 forums, it's 2k16. And in an attempt to wall off the trolls you're just feeding them bro.

So if i downvote your post and a bunch of other people downvote it as well, whatever divine thing you had to say is sealed away from the average forum commuter and shoved into obscurity? Seems legit.

People are not just downvoting everything. maybe everything from certain persons but surely not everything.

And it is better than what was before.

Why not just have a separate forum to put the stuff that is downvoted enough? People who downvoted it dont have to see it on the general/OT/Help/etc. forums anymore and the people who do want to look can just go to that section of the forums

Although I doubt that would happen as too many people have the arrogant mindset that if they personally don't like something then it shouldn't exist.

The above is the fatal flaw of this update. People should be free to decide what to read but not free to dictate what others can read.

The point is not if you can argue over any specific thread that I link. When 70% of the first page is hidden, something is broken. Clearly not all of those deserve to be hidden.

Yet you refuse to give an example. Probably because you know most people don't like all the off-topic spam. Which is probably why they got hidden in the first place. Those threads being hidden doesn't necessarily imply the system is broken; it may as well imply that the majority of the community doesn't like those threads and want them gone. And that's why this update is great. People needlessly spamming threads in the off-topic section can finally be muted to some extent, benefiting the majority of the community as we see here.

I think those "attacks" are negligible. The voting system is weighted; if you're a low level alt: no high weights on your votes. So to actually "attack" a thread, you'd need a lot of high leveled people. And so far, people that are actually involved in this community have been upvoting threads that they deem important and downvoting threads they think are unrelated or nonsense or whatever. I don't think you can do serious damage with only a few players; the forum community is simply too big for weighted votes to contest it.

Yes it is true. But note that it was also true before and automoderation by voting only helps here.

Wonderful. Due to lame spammers now there will be further arms race, with unavoidable drawbacks.

I guess that rate-limiting for low-level accounts will be next.

I want to see the "50 threads hidden" button of legend show up, though.

just as Fizzer(the real one said); "it's sad everyone has to suffer because of the wrongdoing of some people", or sth like that when pic sending in forums gone membership-only.

It's not too hard to automate spamming, literally a half-assed autoclicker can do it.

And as result everybody will lose as CAPTCHA and/or rate limiting will be introduced for low levels...

So they come back with new alt + a proxy?

There's no way to stop someone determined to fuck shit up.

Some things have to be done:

1) Cooldown when you get X threads hidden
2) Finding and banning accounts that are allowing them to reach level 4 (minimum level to post on forums)
3) Moderators that can actually give out suspensions (even if short 1-hour timeouts; would give them time to get rid of the spam)
