Data Summary: Horse Race:Overview:Well, its done, guys. Q1 of Cl9 has wrapped up its competition. As predicted, the results for the top three clans were close, with FCC, Hydra, and ACME all within 6 points of each other when the score was tallied. Unfortunately, ACME found itself on the short end of the stick, and was, of the three contending clans, the one that failed to promote. FCC was buoyed by a strong performance by Pardon99, going 10-0, and also by a suprisingly deft pinch hitter in sloppyfatginger, who incredibly manged 3-0 after an 0-2 boot start courtesy of Nauzhror. As a result, FCC still managed to squeak first place in spite of the boot and substitutions.
Hydra, on the other hand, relied on an incredible 5-0 run and a 4-1 run in 3v3 deadman's rome and 2v2 guiroma to secure second. There 1v1 performance proved to be slightly underwhelming, however, team play definitely allowed them to avoid the stinker-hole.
ACME was up there as well, but there were two major culprits I would like to point to that dragged them below the HYDRA/FCC bar, that they could have avoided with better planning. First, the boot of biggreen15 on 1v1 Guiroma Vs. FCC. Although the game was against FCC's Ace, biggreen15 otherwise went 4-0 on 1v1 Guiroma. Secondly, the losses against Poon Squad. Every clan had to deal with at least 1 loss to poon squad on 1v1 play, however, the loss to Poon Squad on 3v3 Deadman's Rome to Poon Squad proved to be particularly deadly. Kudos to Poon Squad for pulling off that win, and their deceptively good strategic players that surprise, however, I believe that ACME did have the depth and skill level to put up a roster that would beat the best Poon Squad players. I am a strong believer in not looking at what others do, and instead looking at what you yourself did, in order to be better for next time, and these are the two things I felt ACME most definitely could have handled better.
Kudos to Poon Squad for a good performance, considering the nature of their clan and the nature of the competition. There are some deceptively good players hidden within their roster. Every clan had to deal with a 1v1 loss to poon squad at least once, proving their potency. I applaud them for their efforts, and wish them luck in future clan leagues as their players continue to slowly, silently, but surely improve.
FBG fizzled down the stretch. They started off reasonably well, but ended up far lower than poon squad. This clan is old, and their philosophy does not allow them to recruit. This clan continues on its long, downward spiral, as their players leave the game/lose motivation and they don't replenish.
I think we definitely discussed Olympus's Problems in detail enough. They only one 1! game, on Old Strat ME, vs Poon Squad. I guess they took pity on Olympus by allowing to avoid the first ever "0" showing in clan league. Well, no matter, we can all agree that this was one of the worst performances in cl ever, if not the worse. I speculate why they even attempted, when they only got thrashed. If they really want to improve, they have to really get some new blood flowing in them.
And Now, for the Grades:
1. FCC (70 Points) B+: A powerful 1v1 performance. However, they were banking on pardon99 and a recovery from nauzhror boots, and therefore got somewhat lucky, so that prevents them from getting an A-.
2. Hydra (68 Points) A-: Hydra put up an incredible team effort to get through this. I applaud them for their ability to work through their weaker 1v1 performance. The fact that they finish with that weaker 1v1 performance, although traditionally less valued then team performance in clan league, prevents them from getting the solid A.
3. ACME (64 Points) B+: Little quips and little mistakes hindered them, but I felt overall they did well enough to be worthy of a B+
4. Poon Squad (37 Points) C+: Being an upsetter boosts their grades past average, but still, they have a lot of work to do before they truly can compete.
5. FBG (28 Points) C-/D+: A clan in decline, and it showed. They got some points though, so it works out for them.
6. Olympus (3 Points) F: Need I say anything?
All in all, congratulations to FCC and Hydra for the promotion spots, and good luck in C! As for ACME, Poon Squad, FBG, and Olympus, I wish you well in D1/D2, and may you get an opportunity to promote in future leagues.
