DIVISION B COMPLETE UPDATE: May 11th

Its been awhile, eh? But enough that, lets get into this.

Of the two divisions, Division B is by far the more interesting Division, with tighter competition (though its hard to fault Spuds in Division A for walking away with the inaugural Manager's League season) but we want competition, we demand BLOOD!

Well I'm going to have to eat my hat, stupidly saying early in the season that The Force was looking better then Ventus to win this division and promote. But Ventus has come on strong, consistently winning games and leading the division in points and win rate. While following win rate is a rather unsexy metric, its a good indicator of whether a team is doing well or poorly as just points can mask a lot of losses. But back to the more interesting horse race.

At this point in the competition, we have 2 legitimate challengers to Ventus: The Force and Alpha Hunters. Right now, Alpha Hunter and The Force are having trouble passing one another; the poorer win rate of Alpha Hunters reduces their threat to Ventus while The Force has less games completely and therefore more room to mess up. But having The Force and Alpha Hunters similarly ranked means neither can directly challenge Ventus. Until one truly surpasses the other, Ventus will probably win this division.

If I'd make a choice between the two clans to finish second or challenge Ventus for promotion it would be Alpha Hunters. Alpha Hunters has had more success in 2v2 and 3v3 games so far with a more balanced spread of points across the two game types. In contrast, The Force has so far strike out on 3v3 and put up poor results on 2v2.

Again, I've been terrible at predicting this division. I wrote F.C. Nazwa off early on but I was told they would be a slow starter (their win rate has improved greatly), moving to strong templates later in competition. Well, they were right and I was wrong.....

Although F.C. Nazwa is too far behind to win, their late break could play spoiler to Alpha Hunters or The Force. I'll be watching what happens with this team closely as they can have a huge influence on the find results.

Last but not least, the race for last place. Even at the bottom of the division there can be tension! While Jingo has definitely seemed like the clan to place last place, the stall Cat Attack is in doesn't bode well. Cat Attack has won only 7 points in 4 and 1/2 weeks, um, yikes!. Though it seems like Jingo will end up in last place, their high number of losses has pretty much made it unlikely to pass Cat Attack.

Overall, the race is both tight and it isn't. Alpha Hunters and/or The Force could challenge Ventus for first but they both seem to be lacking a certain something in their track record to prove they can follow through. Ventus is soooo close to sealing the deal. And keep you're eye on F.C. Nazwa.

So Division B didn't have the booting issue Division A had, though some players will need to be shuffled or removed from their current posts on many teams. With it looking like Ventus will promote and Legends of Light being added, how the teams go into next season will be interesting. Legends of Light has the talent there, but will they show up? And how do the teams both train up their teams or acquire better talent. I get the sense that next season the rankings for these teams will be completely different.

Division B: The Title Contenders

Ventus

Ventus have 6 games remaining worth a total 26 points. They only need 2 wins to secure 8 points while the remaining 4 being losses; Ventus would end on 83 points, the highest max points for a team other than The Force. If that happens and The Force win their remaining games to reach their 83 max points, the two clubs would be equal on points and on win rate. However, head-to-head across all 7 tournaments Ventus would lead 4-3. Assuming that's the tie-breaker, long story short, Ventus need just 2 wins from their remaining 6 (or more precisely, 8 points from the 26 still available to them) to win Division B.

Alpha Hunters

Of Ventus' 6 remaining games, 3 of them are against Alpha Hunters, and the same 3 are in fact Alpha Hunters' last 3 games of the season. What does this mean though? Ff Alpha Hunters loses a single game, Ventus wins the division; Alpha Hunters max points would fall short of Ventus' total. The only way Alpha Hunters can win Division B is by winning all their remaining games, and hoping two things (outside of their control) also happen:
  • The Force lose at least 1 game
  • Ventus do not find 7 more points in other games

Alpha Hunters do have a chance of winning their last 3 games against Ventus; they've proven strong in team games. It's not unreasonable to also hope that The Force lose at least 1 game; The Force still have 6 games remaining. But needing Ventus to lose 2 more games? On top of the 3 games they wish to beat Ventus in, that's a tough ask given that Ventus have so far been the strongest team in the Division.

The Force

What sequence of events would make the Force Champions of Division B? Well they still have 6 games left to somewhat influence events, but only 2 games against Ventus and none against the Hunters. What that means is, their path to the title is the least obvious.

There's a few scenarios that could play out. In the section on Ventus, we've actually already considered one scenario; The Force win all their remaining games. As we said before, that still won't be enough; they'd still need Ventus to secure less than 8 points i.e. they would need Ventus to lose 5 of their 6 remaining games. Again, that's a tough ask given that Ventus have so far been the strongest team in the Division. We'll now slowly begin to show that this is the effectively the only scenario where The Force can win the title.

Is there any scenario where either Alpha Hunters or The Force don't need Ventus to lose 5 out of 6 remaining games? No there is not; the section on Ventus is clear that 2 wins is all they need. To make things difficult for them though, Alpha Hunters still play 3 games against Ventus, and The Force play 2 against Ventus. Ventus' last game is a 3v3 against Cat Attack. With Cat Attack not having the record this season to be deemed reliable, Alpha Hunters and The Force will likely have to rely on one another to defeat Ventus 5 times between them.

Suppose one of them takes their eye of the ball though, and loses a game to Ventus. Well, if Ventus manages to beat Cat Attack too, Ventus are crowned champions. But if Cat Attack pull off a victory, Ventus will have lost 5 games as required, giving both Alpha Hunters and The Force a chance at the title despite the slip up. If it's The Force that lost to Ventus, Alpha Hunters would win the title, but if it was Alpha Hunters that lost to Ventus, that would rule them out of the title race (see section: Alpha Hunters). No matter Alpha Hunters' loss, The Force would unfortunately still need to win all of their 4 other games against the lower teams of the Division to secure enough points to surpass Ventus. Such is the lead Ventus currently have over The Force.

The last scenario is Ventus lose all 6 remaining games. In that case, Alpha Hunters clearly had to have won their 3 games against Ventus. In order to then stay ahead of Alpha Hunters, The Force still need to win every last game! Neither team then has any margin for error if they want to win. And that brings us to the conclusion.

TL;DR

Ventus will win Division B with 2/6 wins.
Alpha Hunters can only win with 3/3 wins, at least 1/6 losses for The Force, and 2/3 further losses for Ventus.
The Force can only win with 6/6 wins, and at least 5/6 losses for Ventus.

Thank you Great Expanse!

I am hoping that Alpha Hunters win this, but I think it will be
1. Ventus
2. Alpha Hunters
3. The Force or maybe even F.C. (unlikely)

I updated the sheets today and unfortunately I get to burst a team's bubble here.

Alpha Hunters just lost a game so they are cannot promote this season. As well Ventus beat Alpha Hunters pushing them oh so close to solidifying victory.

@snife, F.C. Nazwa cannot rank higher then 4th. So its still a debate who will end in second place: Alpha Hunters or The Force. Thought The Force technically can still beat Ventus despite how unlikely it seems.

Unless I'm also confused, Sultan is right isn't he? The Force only have 57 point as of now. So as long as F.C. Nazwa's max points is above that they could still finish above them? Potentially 3rd.

TBest, your confusion might be that the table is sorted by max points; though F.C. Nazwa can't surpass Alpha Hunters (currently 3rd), they can still surpass The Force (currently 2nd) which might seem a little odd, but I think it's a consequence of the league table being sorted by maximum points rather than actual points.

Nope I think Sultan's right again... was 14 games left, update happened, 9 games left. Poor Sultan always being told he's wrong lol.

If you're counting 8, you might be forgetting the Division B 3v3 that's yet to start. Which only means this season will be dragging on for a while longer :/
